I'm still trying to find an elk guide that takes hunters out on horses to get a branch antlered bull on a rifle hunt. I'd rather hunt here in WA, but ' don't get drawn. I've been looking in Idaho, lots of guides in different areas, or Oregon, a few. Please make recommendations or give me warnings about guides to avoid. Thanks for your help, Diane

Diane,
I don't know if you saw my reply to the same question in another thread (Out of State Hunts.) It kind of got buried so you may have missed seeing it. Here's a link to it:

I'd look into Wyoming, decent drawing odds and they have many units that open in September for rifle hunts in the backcountry. Better get your $ in, the application period ends at the end of January though.

Thanks Bobcat and Ridgerunner,
I'd really like to hunt during the rut. I think I can do that in Idaho.

Yes Idaho does have rifle elk hunts in September in some of the wilderness areas. Are you planning on attending the Puyallup Sportsman's Show? There will probably be some outfitters from Idaho there. The dates for it are Jan 23 to 27. Here's a link with more information:

Hey One More, if your serious here is a link to a outfit that I will HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!! This was probably the funnest hunt I have been on, and Bill and his wife are hard working, honest, personable people, and really know horses. I dont know about any of the shows up here but they are usually at the Portland Show, which if you have not been to I would also recommend if your looking for a hunt like that, much more hunting than the shows up here.

Try these,
www.huntidaho.com
www.huntidahoelk.com
Both are excellent outfits, expensive, but you don't want to cut corners here. Later
