Winter Steel
« on: January 19, 2010, 09:25:30 PM »
Got a couple this weekend.  It looks like it is going to be a good year judging by the first couple weeks.  For a reference the rear grip on that rod is 16" long.  The brighter fish is probably 14-15lb

What rod is that you're using??

It is a custom 9' IMX I had tied up from Raymond at Snakeriverrods.com.  It is a woven graphite rod handle to amplify the sensitivity of the rod.

That's a nice rod.  I really like that graphite handle.

I can tell you it was not cheap, but if you have the coin and want something truely unique check him out.  He does custom thread work that will blow your mind.  He did the Fear No Fish logo on mine.  If you click on the pic and zoom in you can see it.  I also had him do my name on the back to make it 100% personalized.

I have fished a friends side drifting rods that have the wooven graphite rod handles. They are the bomb!!! I'll be putting them on ALL my custom rods in teh future.
I believe LamiGlass is offering them on rods now. The rods I fished were lamiGlass.

Yeah the lamiglas XMG50 has them, but lamiglas customer service pissed me off and I switched all of my steelhead rods over to Loomis.  Matched up with the IMX blank you can feel a fish think about farting  :chuckle: :chuckle:

A little advice if you decide to go that route.  Order your handles from Batson they are 10x better than the ones lamiglas uses.

Here are some pictures of the rod.  The attention to detail he puts into his work is amazing.  Now I cant wait until my Calais gets here then it will be an invincible set up.
