One of the few critters I used to kill with no intention of eating.  I had a family I gave all my ducks to so I wasn't wasting game for those that think a flame is needed.

I was just wondering how common they were around the area cause i have never killed any anywhere but around nine mile falls.  Shot for last Sunday.  My buddies and i have a lot to learn about hunting waterfowl tho cause there about the only dam ducks that will come into are set up  :'( .

I usually pass/jump shoot all mine. They never really decoy to us.  I've got a small lake that has a ton of em on it right now.  I won't be shooting anymore.  I had one of the drakes slung over my shoulder with the goose on the walk out and got a big wiff of powerbait breath :bdid:

I hear they taste like the mud they eat similar to a coot.
God Bless,
Scott

Uh no, they taste like powerbait and fish, not the good kind of fish either.

They'r not bad in a currie sauce....  when there's nothing else flying.  Shot some on Potholes two years ago.  Shoot all you can since they eat a lot of fish.

I shot one years ago that had a 10 inch spiny ray in its gut, too decomposed to tell what it was.

I had a buddy that cooked one up one time and just the smell alone was enough to drive you out of the house. You can imagine how it tasted....  :bdid:

If you get the in Oct. they taste like salmon.   :chuckle:  I used to keep the population well maintained in the area where I used to hunt.
Sawbills   :cue:
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

The best way to use Mergs is to freeze them and use them to train dogs with.

I shot a mergie couple years back and my lab wouldn't touch the dang thing.  She got a few mallards that day, but couldn't get over the smell and taste of the merganser.  Can't say I blame her!

Pretty bad when the dog retrieves one and comes back and has to lick its a$$ to get the taste out of its mouth.   :chuckle: :chuckle:
