Coonhunter's Ranger with traxx

Coonhunter or anyone else with track's on your ranger, how well do they work? I am thinking about buying them to access a remote cabin we are building near Conconully during the winter. I don't know anyone that has them and have never ridden anything that has them on it. I have snowmobile's but I would like to have something that would carry 4 people all at once. Thanks for your help.

Had a buddy that had them on an 800 Bombadier ATV, works great in the under a foot or so range of snow, after that they became bogged down and ATV center of gravity and ground clearance caused problems.  But in snow that deep and less they were crazy good......  Fun as heck too....

we use to have tracks on one of our yota's for playin in the snow. they worked about as good as you would expect something like that to work. never went in anything deeper then 2-3' of snow AND NEVER UP HILL IN POWERED. but on packed snow they worked awesome.

Hey yes bankwalker is right, When your on Highspeed u can only go 30 mph with cat track on hard pack. If its slushy or 2 ft powder upper hill can only use Lowspeed can go under 19 mph. It depends on what game and what sport u are willing to spend. If you perfer in hurry I would use snowmachine. If you bring  something with u and camp out more room in rear box I would use ranger!

Polaris only cost 7,000ish with four new addiation cat track would be almost 4 to 5,000. If you want take your family (wife, kids) u could spend almost 3,000 for window, door, covertop like Mine. It KEEP me warmer when I am hunting under O Degree. I would have to open door little to cool me down because Motor is under the seat it make us warmer!  I could put my rifle on hanger rear window. Three people can fit in. its FUN!

Another two pics from my frined who own it. If you want to take off covertop like mine for summer and put back on for winter. u dont want get wet or COLD like this pic. Window is KEY when u driving forward the colder or snowing is coming THUR your face! Helmet helps but increase cold later. so FYI!

i work at Yamaha Jacks in elensburg,wa and install tracks on rhino's and rangers all the time.  Just for the purpose of reaching those remote cabins.  All the customers we've helped have enjoyed them, and have had positive feed back.  i would recommend them to anyone who has a  ranger or rhino just for the fact if you have it you might aswell use it.  chains work ok till the snow is deep, tracks go and elevate your ride.  two words (there awsome).

Do people use those things on National Forest lands here in Washington? I can't think of anywhere they'd be legal, except for on some state lands. I suppose if you had private land they would be great.

Yes its legal for any pravite road where hunting area and forest service at swakane or tenannaway or liberty bell or blwettee pass or stampdee pass. State patrol and City Police and Game warden have stopped me before and they never give me any ticket. As long as it has Mirror on both side and brake light and helmet and seatbelt then stay on dirty road. Its not for OFFROAD for fun but can go Moses lake sanddune for offroad. Its all good. Not to drive on asphlt city road or public roads. Can go to ORV area. Where all snowmachine are.
People MIGHT nagging  at u to NOT drive but tell them to CALL POLICE your self. I never had problem with people telling me not to. They were all nice to me and think its cool. No biggie.

Hey Coonhunter,
Thanks for the replies. I was thinking about the Rhino or the Ranger and I am leaning towards the Rhino because it is not as wide. Some of the trails I would ride are quad trails and not as wide as the Ranger. I like the pulling power of the Ranger though. What is your take on riding them on forest service roads? I couldn't tell by your reply. When you said you were riding in the Swakane I was assuming it was when there was snow on the ground and people were Snowmobiling. Isn't all atv or utv's illegal on forest service roads? I am not worried about that because I would be on private roads anyways but was curious. Anyone have any thoughts on the Rhino verses the Ranger? I have Polaris 4-wheelers and snowmobiles now and really like Polaris but the width is my hang up. Speed is not an issue because I ride like a grandpa anyways and I am getting these to ride my young kids and wife around.

You can only ride on designated 4 wheel drive only road in National Forest service . BLM and State ground Green Dot only roads with ATVs of any kind . And state law went into effect 2007 Helmits at all times .

The ranger is a much better all purpose machine because of it's towing and hauling capacity my cousinn has one with tracks and it goes like crazy I am in the market for one this summer.  I have done a ton of research on all the utv's and I don't think you can beat the ranger for it's versatility.  If you get a big bull down you'll wish you had the 1000 lb cargo capacity of the ranger if you buy a rhino.  My buddy at work has a rhino and loves it but he uses it more for sport than hunting and working.

man i would like to get my hands on some traxx again. they were a fun thing to have. and it sure would make my late elk season ALOT better now that im back into archery hunting them
