Muzzy Peaches ridge tag
« on: June 24, 2010, 06:45:41 PM »
I haven't been this excited about hunting in years!  And its not my tag :(  But I own him a pack out of a big elk (he helped packout my 93 bull and my smaller 04 bull)

Anyone know of any drainages that would be good to check out?  I know of a couple places in area 346.

Also, since modern tags are at the same time, do we need to wear orange?  Kind of sucks, but if it has to be..............

By law it's required, however, I wouldn't say it's a must. Chances are you'll never see another hunter while you're out there.

There will be a thousand other people out there, hiking, riding motorbikes, etc. None of them wearing orange. Orange clothing laws are dumb but yes it is required. Don't let a warden see you without it. If he does see you without it, you're hunting bears.

I would wear the orange no matter what,I don't trust people that much--no offense but there are people out there that shouldn't even own a gun let alone hunt with one.I hunt a private ranch out of colville with a friend of mine that I trust but you never know who's sneaking in or coming in from the backside of my in-laws prop.

I elk hunted for yrs out of troutlake and always wore a orange vest during muzzleloader season you just never know.

nice thing about 346 is it is really easy to get away from anything and everything.  ya there will be a lot of people running around but they stick to the roads and the trails just get away from those and you will have the whole unit to yourself.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

Actually the "hunting bears" reasoning won't help you. No matter what you are hunting you are required to wear hunter orange when there is a rifle deer and/or elk season going on. You can be hunting rabbit, grouse, bear, or bigfoot and as long as there is a rifle deer/elk season you must wear orange. I know somebody who was cited for not wearing orange when he was hunting grouse, the reasoning is because it was rifle deer season. If you want more info/evidence check page 15 under the second bullet in the hunter orange section.

You're probably right bigtex, but I always thought that was referring only to general deer and elk rifle seasons, not special permit seasons.

You're probably right bigtex, but I always thought that was referring only to general deer and elk rifle seasons, not special permit seasons.

And that's where they can trick you up and end up citing you for. When most people think of "open" areas they think of general seasons, but "open" can simply mean open to one person (such as an area which has only 1 permit). This is why you need to read all of the regs before you head out, just not the general seasons. Been told this by several WDFW Officers.

From the WDFW Big Game pamphlet:

Open Season: All times, areas, and manner
for legally hunting or possessing game animals or
game birds. All hunting season dates listed in this
pamphlet are inclusive.

Anyone hunting in an area that is open for modern firearm deer or elk
hunting must meet hunter orange requirements if they are hunting any
of the following species: Bear, Bobcat, Cougar, Coyote, Deer, Elk, Fox,
Grouse, Hare, Rabbit, or Raccoon.
