Caliber selecting for fun
«
on:

Ok here are the parameters: this is for deer/antelope size game, I have a 243 all set up, I have a 300 WM all set up, I have lots of other rifles smaller than 243 and larger than 300, so confine your choice please.
I want an in "between" rifle, I am thinking 7mm-08, 270 or 270 WSM. make your arguments please!

6.5-284
Extremley accurate, short action, high BC bullets, can have a light rifle that wont beat the heck out of you.

Pretty hard to beat the .300 WM.
The .270 WSM probably has the most gain in short mag.
The .257 Weatherby probably is best mid performer.
If I were goimg in the middle it might be a .260 in a Sako.

I was going to say that....6.5x284, 6.5x47, 6.5-06......at least 8.5 twist and it will spit 142smk's way out there. my next favorite is the 257wby. that thing is like a lazerbeam. I have taken deer, elk and bear with mine and it put them down every bit as fast and hard as my 300rum and 338 did. a lever gun in 45lc or 44mag is a riot and cheap to shoot too.

I would go with the 270 WSM. This is obviously not something you NEED. If it were, I would say get a practical cartridge like the standard 270 Winchester. So I would just get something fun, and a little bit different. The 270 WSM would be perfect for your intended use.

The .270 Win. is an awesome round. Jack O'conner called it the perfect sheep cartridge. I think what is so great about it is the flat trajectory with mild recoil which equals accuracy.
I also really like the 25-06. It is a great dual purpose round.

i really like the 7mm-08 huge range of bullets great caliber good knock down. but i also love the 270wsm one of the flatest shooting guns out there with a big selection of bullet weights as well. i also have and like a 25-06 but most times bullets are 90-120 grains so for your choices.
less then 200 yards avg shoot 7mm-08 more then 200 yard avg 270 wsm

How about a .260? Mabey a Ruger with a cool paint job?
