4 days until WY. WOOHOOOOOO!!!!
« on: August 27, 2010, 05:31:42 AM »
Me, MHWash and his BIL will be headed to WY for our Antelope hunt Oct 7th. With the smell of fall in the air I'm starting to go crazy. Can't wait!!! We each got 2 doe tags and a buck tag. Matt and Chris have never even seen an Antelope!!! This should be a lot of fun!!! WOOHOO!!!!!

I plan on taking the buck with my 260. 1 doe with a .44 redhawk. But don't know about the other doe. Thinking about the t3 in .243 to see if that lowly .243 is as good as everyone says. Or maybe a smokepole. Or maybe my open site 45/70. Damn too many choices.

I leave in 15 days and a wake up. My group of 4 will be in unit 72, about 15 miles West of Casper. We all have the buck & 2 doe tags also. Our season starts on 9/15.
We are having the same dilemma; which caliber or weapon type? Between us all we are bringing .243's, .270, .30-06's, compound bows and a T/C 7mm open sights contender(I hope to take a doe with this one within 100 yds).
Hopefully it quits raining so much. Have heard bow hunters are having difficult time with so much water on the ground.

Shoot true and best of luck to all of of us.  :)

Gasman and I are heading out beginning of Oct to an area by Gillette. I have a buck and two doe tags. Paying a tresspass fee. The rancher does not allow bows on his ranch; only firearms for hunts on his ranch. Bringing the bow anyway and hopefully when he meets us will allow archery. ( A few boxes of Washington apples will hopefully soften his disposition towards archery ;) ) Also bringing 6.5x55, .243 and bringing the ml for does. Rancher said he had praire dogs to shoot so also bringing the .223. Looking forward to eating lots of game this year.

If he still doesn't let you archery hunt, just head to some public land, you'll get close enough for a bow shot.  Even if it's a mostly private section, which most are, there are school sections to hunt and you can spend all day on one section stalking lope with a bow.  Good luck!

Yeah but I did that last year on the doe. Not sure if I want to repeat. It sure did thump her though.

I don't have pics of the doe but I was there late Oct last year. Took a Buck with my 6.5 swede and a doe with the 45/70 Leverevolution. I hit it too far back but it dropped like struck by lightening. Had to finish her.

I'm heading to region H on the 13th. Getting pumped. Will be toting a .300 winnie and a .243. Never killed a deer with a .243 so I want to use it. The .300 will be for back up if a gun fouls up in the group.
