Any disabled hunters want an archery shot at a doe in the islands?
« on: September 06, 2010, 12:11:52 PM »
Not a super challenging hunt but if you want to put a little meat (25-30 pounds I would guess) in the freezer, let me know.  I can transport to the island and possibly provide overnight accomodations.  We would ask that only a doe is shot as we are trying to do a little population control.  This would be a ground blind with shots up to 35 yards.

Throwing this out there to see if there is any interest.

Rory Calhoun works for the state Recreation and Conservation office, is active with the Citizens' Task Force for the Disabled, and is also an avid wheelchair hunter.  I worked with him years ago on a disabled road access entry hunter opportunity.  I suspect he could help you find as many disabled hunters as you'd like for an opportunity like that.  rory.calhoun@rco.wa.gov.

For future years, I am sure WDFW would be very happy to create an antlerless-only archery permit hunting opportunity, outside of the general archery season, so they couldn't legally kill bucks.  Last I knew, Ruth Milner in Mill Creek is your district wildlife bio.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Yes.

Weathergirl saw 7 deer walking through the neighbor's this evening and passed on a shot at a small forky in deference to my need to work tomorrow.   :'(

Great offer loki! I have a buddy that served in iraq and Afghanistan. He suffered a hand injury and some pretty bad ptsd. I'm sure he would be interested but I'm not sure how "disabled" you are looking for? He has a disabled hunter card. Let me know.
Team nubby!
