WDFW violation online reporting
« on: September 06, 2010, 06:26:25 PM »
So went fishing this morning and saw a group of guys catching more than their limit, sharing fish with people who weren't even fishing, didn't see anyone fill out their catch card and wanted to give WDFW a heads up about it. Fill out the info, the several pages it prompts you through, then go to submit it and it only says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." So I go back, submit again. Same thing. Again, same thing. How can we submit violations when their page doesn't even work?

Now not everyone in that group was doing that, but about half of them were. Guys who had caught and kept their limit of two salmon would get right back in the line and keep fishing. Would be nice if WDFW could monitor this area, but know there aren't enough of them to go around. Would be even better if these guys would just get their two and get out of the way. At least nobody kept any nates, but was suggested that they should by one of the guys in the group.

One of the wardens came by my house today to seal a pelt for me. We discussed some of the computer issues they are experiencing. I guess the WDFW has instituted a totally new system and server network, both online and in their vehicles. I guess right now nothing is working as it should. He was saying that something as simple as a fishing violation can take as long as 45 minutes to complete. He said if he's dealing with multiple violators he might as well forget it...it will take all afternoon to write up. He said they're supposed to be fixing everything, but he didn’t seem too optimistic about it. I asked about reporting violations and he just gave me his card and said to dial dispatch.

That number only operates (has someone answering the calls) during normal business hours, excluding state holidays and furlough days.

I always call my local Washington State Patrol office since they dispatch WDFW Officers 24/7/365. The WSP numbers are in the hunting and fishing regs.
