OT

I seem to remember it was Winchester that it didn't like as well.

That is pretty funny, if I had first shot my Savage .308 with the Winchester ammo I picked up to try I would have taken the rifle right back for an exchange. I first shot Federal Power-Shok 150's in it and was getting groups between 5/8" and 1". I tried the Winchester Super X 180's and found that it wasn't even on paper anymore at 100 yards! I adjusted the scope up about one and a half FEET and proceeded to put 12" groups up...I immediately started checking the rifle over for something loose etc and found nothing, tried a group with some Silver Bear 145gr and held 1.5' low and got a 1" group. Re-sighted with the Federal and haven't tried any other ammo since...
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

I have both, in diff calibers than 06 though, but think the Tikka clearly has an edge in accuracy and smooth bolt.  That said I trust my 700 much more mechanically, the bear I took Sat was with my Rem.  Though, if i was to lose all my rifles right now, I'd replace them all with a 3006 T3 Stainless, if that tells you something :)  or a 300 win or wsm......

On a side note, in hunting positions, I shoot my T3 worse than my heavy 700.  My 700 weighs 2 lbs more (aftermarket HS stock on it).  But off sandbags, that T3 amazes me with 1" at 200 yds.

owned many of both, do not own a Rem rifle now. I'd take the Tikka, I have never paid over 50.00 for a magazine. I have several.

Well if it were me I would go with the Tikka. I don't have enough time to say all the good things about it. If you haven't ever handled one get a hold of me and we will go out shooting so you can see first hand how nice and accurate it shoots. For all of you out there here is how mine is set up. Its chambered in .308, Scoped with 3x9x40 Burris Fullfield II, and a Limbsaver recoil pad. Oh yeah and the trigger is pull is set to my liking.
sounds good :)

Okay......I'll give my .02's worth. The Tikka I have is in 25-06, it shoots very well, the action is super smooth and it has a great trigger. Feeding rounds is like a hot knife thru butter, clean and smooth. It is sooooo light and easy to carry I regret when I don't take it on a hunt.

The downside to the Tikka line is aftermarket goodies, they just aren't to be found. However, if you want an extremely reliable, straight shooter that handles well, then I would certainly suggest a long look at them.

Just bought a new 300 win mag. it came down to the tikka and the 700. I went with the 700. would have been happy with either. couldn't get by the clip on the tikka. The composit seemed kinda plasticy. and it is about $75 to replace, the 700 is about $30-35.
i did notice that too (the clip) but the 700 ADL is the one im looking at and it has no clip you just push the bullets in and there is no way other then using the action to get them out which would be a pain if your mooving in and out of a car but i dont think it be that easy to break the clip

i like both its all a matter of personal preference but i just couldnt let this go, kind of a pet peeve, i have an older 700 bdl and yes there is a way to empty the box mag without cycling the bolt and chambering a round everytime, most if not all box mag rifles have a floor plate that is releasable so you can empty the box mag from the bottom the rifle and not chamber each and every round. on all of mine and dads bolt actions there is a release button on the front of the trigger gaurd.

had a FORMER hunting buddy do the cycle the bolt method and ended up touching one off into the rear tire of his truck a mere 3 feet from where i was standing

ADL has no botom metal, it's a blind mag and you do have to cycle the bolt to eject each round.
