Lowland Lake Opener
«
on:

I am packing up the kids for our annual trout opener at Park Lake (SunLakes). Is anyone from here heading over there that weekend? We get a motel at the south end of Banks Lake and trailer the boat to Park in the mornings, will be there Friday evening-Sunday.

I used to go there every year for the opener until I started turkey hunting. There is still a big group of my fam that will be there. Look for the motorhome with all the Crown Royal bottles around it
I wish I could go, but the wife likes me home "some" weekends throughout the year! We always fished Vic Meyer. Its a perfect lake to take the kids to bank fish. Have fun.

i used to go over there a lot too, but i went to dry falls usually. we usually camp at the state park or the rv park. that place can sure get to be a zoo, but there are a ton of fish they put in those lakes, and thats got to make good fun for the kids. do you ever fish blue lake?

I used to fish it every opener, but haven't the past few years, the family still goes there and fishes "blue lake" and usually does fairly well. The stocked the heck out of it, i went last year and fished it a few weeks after the opener and every cast either had a bite or landed a fish. 3 of us limited in an hour.

BTW breakfast is always good at big wallys. we also had a good breakfast at the little restaurant just south of hwy 2 on 17. it's been a couple years since i've been over there as i have been focusing more on river fishing lately...so that little hole in the wall may not be there any more. perch lake up the dirt road towards dry falls lake usually has a good number of fish in it too, and the crowd is usually pretty light, but you won't be putting that big blue boat in there.

Hit it every year seeing how I live 20 minutes away. Usually do well throughout the summer. Hopefully this year wont be as windy as last for the opener. Some of the fish should be bigger also being the second year after they were rehabilitated. I also saw they are planting some German browns back into Park if I'm not mistaken. That lake used to hold some bruisers before they killed it off. Its too bad they had to do that there were some smallmouth bass in blue that would go over 5 pounds!

We hit it every year after we get off the lake.

Drove by it this afternoon. the chironimids were coming off with a light riffle on the water and the fish were moving. Looked good. We stayed at Steamboat for the weekend. I tried for some sunfish and bass, but the water temps were pretty darn cold. Not much action. Couldn't believe it when I drove by Loon Lake on Thursday and it was completely froze over still.

Can anyone give me a report on the sun lakes chain, am I wrong to assume the ice is off by now. The way its been going I'm going to have to pull my boat over the pass in the snow.

Ice is off, fish are moving. Little windy this weekend. Wouldn't have been the most comfortable being out there with the fam unless you have a covered cabin.

Great time to go to Blue and Sun Lakes, wont be so many PWC's on the water ruining the fishing, lol.

I like that last pic, looking the fish right in the eye. The crumbs on his face make it look like he just tried to take a bite out of the fish.
