Ladies first buck...
« on: November 21, 2010, 08:32:06 AM »
My friend Julie drew a rut tag in a unit with quality bucks this year.  She had never hunted before, but was determined to start her hunting career with great memories.  Julie and her husband Kyle asked me if I'd help since I know the area so well.  My trailcam actually recorded this buck rubbing a post recently, so we started out opening morning hunting that area.

After slowly working through some timber we set up where she could watch several skid roads.  It was a perfect morning for rattling, cold and calm!  I began rattling and after 45 seconds Julie and Kyle spotted a deer moving in through the trees.  When they saw deep forks on the perfect 4pt, Julie repositioned her rifle and the buck stopped in an open shooting lane 90 steps away.  I couldn't see the buck where I was sitting, but when I saw her take the safety off I knew something  more then a forked horn was in her sights.  After the shot the buck only went about 60ft and piled up.   Julie made a perfect shot on her first game animal and is extremely happy with her first Blacktail buck.  I'm really proud of the way she handled herself and couldn't be happier for her!

Nice Blackie Buck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to the lady hunter.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

She was shooting a .243, but I never asked or looked at the brand.  Her husband Kyle loaded the ammunition for her.

We were expecting snow Saturday, so she put blue tape over the muzzle to keep the moisture out.

The buck netted 145 6/8 if anybody cares.  It was shot in the Cascades and can only be scored as a mule deer.

Here's a couple more pics of Julie and Kyle...
