Late tag success!
« on: November 21, 2010, 02:48:06 PM »
Well,  I finally drew an EW late tag after 9 years of puttin in.  Weather kind of sucked most of the time...was hoping for more snow.  I did manage to find a pocket of does down lower with a bunch of bucks on the outskirts.  The third day i spotted this guy from quite a distance.  He looked wide but I couldnt tell his mass.  I decided to leave him alone and see if there was something better out there.  The 17th rolled around and I went back to the hole to find him.  He was still there and had 10 does with him.  I put a nice stalk on him and shot him at about 60 yards.  He just kept getting bigger as I got closer to him.  28 inch spread with lots of mass.  Def. worth the 9 year wait.  I couldnt be happier except for the pack out lol.  Almost felt "wrong" to be carrying a modern firearm during the heavy rut with no one around...almost.

Great looking buck.. Whats with the blue grees eye in the second picture?  Is that deer blind in that eye or is it a reflection of some kind?

Not sure Michelle...his eyes looked normal on the ground...maybe a reflection from a large lake...lol.

Its a terrible tag to own.  Your always thinking "there must be something better out here".  Years ago I saw some that would blow this one away so thats the only reason.  Plus I knew he was staying there with all the does.

No broken from probably a fight.  He was def. a fighter...scars all over his face.  He had an abcess on one of his hind quarters looked like a tine stuck into his bone.

Nice buck!  It does feel sort of wrong hunting with nobody else around.. Almost!  HA!  That's been my wife's only experiences so far, a moose and quality deer hunt.  I'll take her out for general season next year and show her how it's really done!
