Miles thanks for the pm. With your advice I think I know of a couple of good spots (snow shows required). I will keep you posted. :)

I have had a few whitetails coming in that have shed, or are in the process.  The first bald buck was on the 13th of Dec., which seems early to me since it was a young buck.  Other than that, I now have one bald 3 point and a one horn spike.

A bell curve always starts somewhere.  Just like seeing a healthy buck still packing in May.  Happens, just isn't average.

What I am interested in proving or finding out........some say animals shed almost the exact time every year (themselves I am talking) yet some say the bigger the buck/bull the earlier they shed.    Can't really have it both ways.    I've kinda seen it both so maybe again there is no hard fast reasoning behind it.

I always say..."They shed when the antler falls off and hits the ground".  Could be today, could be tomorrow, or it could be a month from now.  There are certain times when I expect certain things to happen, but almost every year while shed hunting I see things that just make me scratch my head.  I've gone so far as to keep detailed records on calenders with dates of sheds found, numbers found, location, past snow storms and amount of accumulation, weather, etc... and then use it to attempt to figure out exactly when they had to have shed their antlers.  You can narrow it down as to a time frame for the majority, but even that can be off year to year.   Yes, I'm a little crazy about shed hunting...I've know that for about 16 years now. :chuckle:
I too have been keeping a log of where, when, elevation, snow fall,temp,size...the list goes on. I'm trying to break it down but theres so many factors. I have however found the same bucks sheding in the same bed several years in a row but never at the same time :dunno: I think it's the mystery of the whole process that keeps me moving. Good luck to you all this season.

mica unit is very well known for early dropping every year for whiteys, been hunting the area for 20 years, see bucks every year by late Nov dropping. I know of 3 bucks this year shot in Dec that had sides fall off when recovering them
