Unless you have taken the class and obtained a permit, Ft. Lewis Rez land off of Rainier road is not an option.  The military frowns on people hunting on their PRIVATE land without going through the proper procedures.

You don't have to take a class (unless you mean watching the video is a class), and obviously you have to get a permit.  I meant PUBLIC, meaning government owned and anyone can gain access by simply getting the permit.  PRIVATE propery generally means owned by a PRIVATE individual (as in, not the federal government) who may or may not grant you access.

Yes, by class I do mean watch a video and fill out paperwork.  And yes it is private because it is not readily open to the general public at any time.  They deny you access until you meet their requirements.

Well does anyone know where he can obtain info about taking the class and obtaining the permit at this stage in the game?

They can contact the Northwest Adventure Center and they can help them out with Ft. Lewis access...they are the ones that control the hunting on the Ft. and if for some reason the area he want's to go to is under Range Control, they can at least let him know that and how to obtain a Range Control Pass...which is different than the hunting pass...sometimes both are required depending on where he wants to go and what is open...NWAC controls the hunting education side, and Range Control handles the access to certain parts of the base (like near the Nisqually River).

Here is Northwest Adventure Center's phone number...just keep in mind it's a government operation and the person answering the phone might not have a clue about hunting in January...as they mostly deal with the pheasant release stuff...
