Bowhunting release advice?
Good day to all, I am looking for advice on bowhunting releases. The Tru-Glo 360 that I had was chewing up D-Loops (4 in two months) so I returned it and am now looking for a new release. Now this is my archery equipment so money is no object here, I want THE BEST release money can buy! So far I like Scott and Carter but not sure about styles, I have always used a double caliper but I am intrigued by the swing out design. This seems like a good idea, just swing the hook onto the D-Loop and draw; not having to open the caliper to clip it on might be helpful when that royal bull steps out at 20yds but is it as accurate as the double caliper? Truth is I don’t know I have never shot this style before, please chime in with any feedback. Thanks

I used the scott little bitty goose for 2.5 years and it was decent. I got tired of the sloppy trigger so I just recently bit the bullet and bought the carter "like mike". It tightened my groups up right off the bat. Crisp trigger and very well built. Shooting back tension with it is wayyyy easier than it was with my goose. If money is no object look at the "like mike" you will love it.

Ive been shooting a Scott silverhorn for 2 years.... I love the swing out style, you never have to look down at the loop get it hooked up just feel it with your thumb drraw and fire away....

buy a Carter just make sure it has the scott buckle on it , much better adjustment

For a hunting release I don't think the style of that Scott or the Carter Quickie or Like Mike can be beat.  I bought the Quickie 1 a few years ago and love it.

I use a T.R.U. Ball Short 'N' Sweet, definitely Sweet!

I've shot with The spot Hogg wise guy for about the last 8 months and I really like it. It takes a little getting used to but once you get a routine down they are sweet. Very smooth & I am sure my groups are better because of it. I liked how short you can adjust them, this one will adjust a good 1/2 inch more than my old one. Shortening it up gave me a much more solid anchor on my face & neck. I got this release at the same time I got my new bow, I went a 1/2 inch shorter on the draw length & shorter on the release. The whole system feels more solid & in control. Mike

I have shot the Itty Bitty goose for the past two seasons. Last year in camp a buddy had a Spott Hog Wiseguy and I tried it out and loved it. Finished the season with my Itty bitty goose and killed my bull using it but bought the Wiseguy a little while back and couldn't be happier. Wiseguy is a great release, don't get me wrong love the Scott release's I have (Itty Bitty and Little Goose) just like the woseguy better. Good luck.

I have the Little Goose for several years then moved to the Wildcat.  I also have a Carter Q 1+ with Scott's strap.  The Carter is heavier than the Wildcat.  So I'm still shooting the Wildcat. As far as smooth and accuracy goes, I had no problem with either one.

Thank you gentlemen, excellent information all! So after shooting a few of these and I definitely like the hook style, I’m leaning towards the Carter just because it seems very well built and I like the wrist strap, however I have yet to shoot the Scott Silverhorn… Unless I have some sort of epiphany it will probably be one of those two. Thanks again guys for all your help.

There is another way to go also.  Instead of a sting loop go with a metal D loop that just has two screws that clamp it on to your string.  I have used one for 2 years and it works great.  I also put a bit of lock tight on the screws to make sure they don't come out.  One other thing is that most bow shops have ones you can try out if you want to use some before you buy.

Scott Stingray is my favorite, but you cant go wrong with most of the Scott and Carter releases.  my

I shot a Scott Wolf for a lot of years. No longer made. Dual caliper. Good release. Last year after trying one out at Cabelas, I bought a True Fire Edge Foldback release. Dual caliper that stays closed(spring loaded)untill you pull the trigger. Good length adjustment and good trigger adjustment. Also, the Foldback feature is very nice when you drive your rig or need to do some chores. You can simply fold it back against your forearm without taking it off. I also like the buckle design they come with. No more trying to thread the damn belt thru the buckle. With the arrow head thing on the end of the elastic strap, it stays threaded.

Who makes bows that are 37"+ anymore.  I know a few people do I was joking.  Anyway Ive shot scott releases for the 6or 7 years and never had a problem.

Hoyt and Bow Tech do. Chuck Adams has taken more book animals than anyone I am aware of and shoots a Hoyt Pro Vantage with fingers.

I shoot with fingers and a release and like the Scott thumb releases. Thinking of going back to fingers. One less piece of equipment to worry about

Before I went traditional and started using a finger tab, I tried two types of releases...a strap on and a plunger type.  The strap on was a bit "in the way", but it worked real well and I shot accurately with it.  The hand-held plunger type, though I shot well with it, for some reason struck my index finger every time I shot, and eventually my finger went numb and took months to heal properly.
