its funny you bring that up.. ol general boddington wont hunt with a semi auto, because of the issues with keeping it clean he says.. but it is issued...

look, not all of us are trained by the government, honestly.. that, and in this sorta situation,, there is no armorer to fix your weapon.

Well good luck to Gen. Boddington in a gun fight with a bolt action, my bet is he would choose the AR if given the choice unless he is a long distance expert.

Your right about the training, however if you are reading this thread and own an AR I'm also betting you know enough about guns to make sure you can clean and repair the majority of any minor issues that may occur. I never said it was the perfect weapon, just said it would be one of my choices. I would choose a AK too.

Like you said though, trust your own judgments, I'm sure you know more than the brass making these rediculous decisions anyway. :chuckle:

Distance is not always a factor at all as much as it can be to keep the enemy's head down while your partners move in "covered". The AK 74 was a lot better than the 47 model but I don't like those kmart guns.

as an avid student of history, i just cant help but notice some critically bad mistakes made.. facts is factss

i like a bolt gun, remember, i dont wanna gun fight, just survive. look at a m98, notice what makes it a great rifle.. 8mm , can handle anything you really need,, the safety,, sure, solid, dependable,, locking the firing pin completely out of the way,, can survive rough handling,, the bolt, strong,, super easy to clean ,, ultra reliable, the butt plate, made of steel, these things have smashed thru doors, windows, thumped skulls and putting serious dents in helmuts.  the rifle does not have to be clean to work. mauser claw makes sure loads go in or out, not balking.. and they are as versatile as any rifle out there,, triggers, stocks, sights, scopes, barrel legnths,, rechambering,, all sorts of stuff.

if you like the ar,, cool.. but dont poo poo me and snipe me because i dont like your rifle. its a free country, use what you like. while i dont know how to dissasemble an ar,, i would lay wager, if thats still legal in this state, that the bolt rifle is far easier and faster to maintain and clean. take care friends.

Your correct about the M98 great gun no question and a bolt action is faster to clean. I think the pre 64 M70 win followed the same design :dunno:, and I love my pre 64 .308.

I would just have an ar in the collection for the rapid fire ability, that's all.

Truth be told I would shoot what I had as long as I could, once they shell your house your F---ed most likely anyway :chuckle:

lucky dog,, havin a pre 64.. i just have a couple plunger style 70's..the us springfield 1903 was pretty much a 98 copy,, except the two piece pin,, lack of locking screws on the bottom metal,, cocking piece and no thumb cut in the left side of the reciever... germany sued us and won for patent infringement.. your right,, rifles havent changed since the 98, m54 , 03 or pre 64 70

.45acp- for the up close and personal work
.300 win mag Tactical - you know for when you need to reach out and touch someone
.223 AR - crowd control ...oops mean critter control
12ga pump- door opener and a dove gun, what more could a guy want.

I have not seen anyone poo poo other than to just discuss what they like themselves. I wouldn't be upset about it.

There's nothing here that I can see which is intended to validate that you are right and someone else is wrong or the other way around. I think the assertion is that a couple of people and myself included believe that the AR is a good piece to consider having. Including that it has some capabilities which some other rifles do not. I believe that most people would agree with some of the points you have also made. I wouldn't call any of the discussion sniping. However you are entitled to your feelings....

... i dont wanna gun fight, just survive...

This is my position as well.  A lightweight .22 and subsonic ammo.  I would also have my .45 for up close protection.  Evade and survive.

yup, im gona have a kimber desert warrior on my side, and a m1a socom with an aimpoint on her in my hands. ide have an fn m40a3 with a 10x leupold m8 ultra stashed right next to a benelli m3. in the same pile would be a suppressed ruger 1022 incase i need to keep things quiet. i think i could handle about any threat with this assortment, unless there is armor, then im gona do what jenny says and '' run forrist runnn''...... all the time im thinkin this im hearin that song in my head, run for the hills... run for your life.... in the back of my head, lol

Lets see, i live in the hills. I have a 300 win mag with about 100 rounds of amo. I have a rem. 308 with about 100 rounds. ruger 10/22 with about 1000 rounds, 12 guage not sure how much amo. 50 cal ML with not sure about amo. I am sure i can keep my family safe. They would have to make it up the hill and i could hit em before they got close. Plus i could plink the deer around here if i need to.
