Fishing boat search (is over)
« on: March 19, 2011, 08:25:42 PM »
After a bit of searching I pulled the trigger on a new to me boat i hope to use in the ocean. It's a Grady White Islander. 26' 11' and an 8.5' beam. Still need to shake it down a bit, but it seems to to be a sea worthy boat. Has some of the basics GPS, radar, speed depth, flow scan, ect.. What do think, will it make me a sea worthy fish'n boat? Now I just need to learn from all of you how to fish the ocean. Plan to mainly go out of Westport so don't hesitate if your heading out to shoot me a PM so I can tag along, or maybe some members can jump aboard.

the downside about owning a NICE boat....

it doesnt matter where you fish.... get ready to be followed around by guys who think a nice boat means there is fish there :P

nice boat!!!!!!!!
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.

C-Money, I expect no fish will be safe once i learn the area, but that may take awhile. To be honest I have never fished for Halibut or tuna but they are in my plans. I may have to do one of each on a charter first just to get the feel of it.

Hoping a few savy members of the westport area throw out an invite to let me follow them out or hop on board and show me some of the ropes. Hate to offer up boat, fuel, tackel, and bait to learn a few tricks, but that may be a cheap route.

My Brother-in-law had a smaller Grady and ended up selling it.  It was the best boat I have fished out of.  Greatly enjoy yours!!

GWs are awesome boats. That should have a head in it also, small but better than a bucket. I've fished out of one just like that for salmon & buts at Langara. Great boats no matter the weather. When trolling, kill one engine and save fuel.  :twocents:

I towed a buddies grady white might be the same as yours but i think it was wider had to get a wide load permit.. Great boat! He uses it to go from Anacortes to the San Juans in ANY weather.  Very fast, & stable.. Kinda thirsty tho.. Make sure you buddies know how much they need to contribute for fuel.. It cost my buddy a MIN of $100 to go from  Cap Sante in Anacortes to the other side of Decature and back.. Usually cost more.  :twocents:

Nice looking boat.  Looks like you need some good (electric) downriggers to get rigged for salmon.  Too bad it is a La Nina year not an El Nino, tuna probably won't be easily available.

Huh?  That's like 16 miles round trip....  Oh, just noticed Cap Sante not Skyline, still less than 30 miles round trip.  Twenty five gallons of gas?  Wow.  I guess more power isn't always better.

His Grady could pass anything but the fuel dock!  :chuckle:

To answer a few of the questions.

Named the boat DOUBLETIME. It's a cheap shot at my supervision here at work, as in, I paid for the boat with all the doubletime money I made, and yea i have a pic on my desktop here at work. Still waiting for the Coast Guard paper work until I stick the name on it. Man they are slow at getting the title back to me.

Got a pair of scottys on the alumaweld and an extra set of mounts so i can swap them back and forth, just need to get the electrical sockets and get them mounted. The boat also came with outriggers, and a live bait tank(which I have removed for now).

And Special T, you are wrong it holds over 200 gallons so i can pass one fuel dock but I sure wont pass the second one  :chuckle::chuckle:. Looks like I'm getting about 1.75 MPG @ 30 MPH cruise and WOT is around 50 MPH, and it holds plane around 20 MPH.
