Some mineralized salt will get you picks during the summer months.

apples, game blocks from a feed store with the deer on the picture, and pour a little acorn rage jelly on them they will eat it all as long as a beer doesn't find it first.

How much salt do you use and do you do anything to attract them to it???  I will have to try that.

50 lb sack from feed store is a start.. dump some every couple of months..the smell of salt is enough to attract

During the spring and summer the elk will push our cattle off of selenium blocks and devour them (the blocks not the cattle), especially just after calving and the grass is green and nothing but water.

I've found 50 pound blocks of sait pretty licked up before. If you keep salting the same area elk will start to dig it out of the ground.

Salt blocks, they work great plus the elk need salt in their diets ; ). I
Have moose to deal with over here so blocks last longer. Dig a hole and leave half of it exposed so they can't roll it away, cause they will!

Bad thing about food to attract is it doesnt last.. and u have to haul it in, buy, spend time aquiring food to feed elk which could become quite costly..100lbs of apples is nothing for a few elk to eat, not to include deer and bears eating them. 50lb of salt works just as good and its a one time deal and they will keep returning.

We put the selenium out in late June, early July... then resalt a month later... then refresh just before early season.... put cams up around the 4th of July..... keeps the elk coming in.  The selenium gets into the ground and they dig it up... one spot we salt is probably a good 3 feet deep now.... it works...
