Scouting bears in the 448
« on: May 25, 2008, 08:21:30 PM »
Got any early start to scouting bears in the 448.  Found a lot of good sign today. Lots of poop, and a ton of freshly torn-up tree's.  They seem to prefer the 8-10" caliper hemlocks. All the trees we found had the bottom 3 or so feet striped and gouged. Most of the trees had really fresh scrapes, still very wet and sticky. The poop in the first pic looked really fresh. A few pics...

Since Snowman has already hijacked edmonds thread...i figured I would add. :)

The 448 is looking good.  We found a fair amount of sign, and a couple piles of poop.  Snowman could have buried his 44, there was so much there.

In all, great day of hiking and the weather was perfect.

Additionally, Snowman brought his 7-year old with us.  I have never heard of a 7-year old know so much about hunting and guns.  This kid knows his stuff...I felt inadequate around him - LOL - J/K  I went home and played with my little girl, and all I could think about is how bad I want to teach her all the things Snowman's son knows.

We hiked about 7 miles, and he kept up with us the entire time!!!

Good times!!

Thanks for the thread fellers. 448 is my stomping ground also. Last year sure was promising.Took a look at three different bears during the season with tons of sign and sound. Looking forward to start scouting my self! I'll head up in the next week or so. Best of luck as of Aug. 1st! I can't wait!

Sure would be nice to find a nice pistol lying next to bear krap like Snow does. Wonder what they eat to krap that out.
