It looked like that cat was thinking about jumping on him but i got the shot off before. i got him with a 223 rem at 503 yards missed his left eye by about a inch. i would call it my best shot by so far lol that funnyest part was my brother 6'5" and 250 lbs of muscle was about to woop me until i told him what happend he didnt even know i was shooting a cougar right above him until i walked all the way over there and told him about it. got the cat mounted with the bullet hole still showing ill see if i can find pictures of it but if not ill take a new one for u guys. thanks to the night force scope i can make shots accurately that far hahahaha

Great looking birds everyone!  It's been quite the challenging year so far.   Cold, wet, rainy, foggy, icy, snowy, windy, hailing, a few sun breaks ..... but still some good birds left to be harvested.

Was able to finally bag this cardiac strutter after trying several times and being badly snubbed each time.   After being busted for the second time, we set up on the strut zone and was able to later get him fired up again.  Suddenly he came running towards us down a fence line and at 60 yards found yet another hen to strut his stuff to!   :bash:

Then the wind and rain kicked up and blew our Jake Decoy part way off the stake with the head sticking high in the air!    :yike:

After waiting and occasionally calling, we were able to call the hen away from him and she came in to our decoys and then up to five feet ......................  and then ........ putt, putt, putt...... game over??

She left and moved behind us and pulled ole Tom in our direction but at the last second he spotted the precocious looking Jake Decoy and started moving away from us and .......... I was able to seal the deal.  Whew were we amped up from the drama.

Hope to make it out again next weekend.  Good luck to everyone for the rest of the season.

PG - Athough I had the same weather and ended up hunting public this year, I still managed to call up several groups. I had a huge tom and hen come from long distance only to skirt around and above on what we call the cliff ... then the hen came to the edge popping out the searching clucks which I imitated back to her .. after a minute she left and then the huge tom suddenly came to the edge ... he was bobbing left and right, up and down while trying to find me ... when I shot, he bobbed again and I only succeeded in knocking off half a dozen feathers.  Watched as he flew off and then ran off with his entourage of a dozen hens.  I've named him "Ali" for his rope-a-dope tactics (he had the long rope, so I guess I'm the dope) ... next year. I did get to shoot a few others with my camera. And it did beat staying at work and home ...

It was a great hunt Yelp. This was my step son's first turkey. This bird gobbled 31 times in the roost, i gave him a couple soft tree yelps and some clucks, he flew down about 120 yrds away when he hit the ground i purrd a couple times and 10 minutes later he came strutting in to our decoy set up. I had a struutting tom with a real eastern tail fan over top a hen decoy that was laying on the ground with a jake decoy 10 yrds off to the right side. This bird never came out of strut and he shot him at 25 yrds. 6:20 am first dead eastern. :)

TD - Sounds like you had a great experience.  If I see "Ali" this coming weekend I will give em your regards and a load of 6 Hevishot!  I hear he is now tripping over his rope ....... all this rain you know!   :chuckle:

4 for 4. More importantly I was able to get all 3 of my boys out for the opener. Something that is getting more and more challenging these days. Man, we had a good time!

8 3/4" beard, not too long of spurs but they run around on a lot of rocks and stuff where I shot him. 3 year old bird for sure. Called him in to 30 yards before I gave him a neck of federal copper plated 5's out of the benelli. :IBCOOL:
