Eastern turkey on the west side.
It was a great hunt Yelp. This was my step son's first turkey. This bird gobbled 31 times in the roost, i gave him a couple soft tree yelps and some clucks, he flew down about 120 yrds away when he hit the ground i purrd a couple times and 10 minutes later he came strutting in to our decoy set up. I had a struutting tom with a real eastern tail fan over top a hen decoy that was laying on the ground with a jake decoy 10 yrds off to the right side. This bird never came out of strut and he shot him at 25 yrds. 6:20 am first dead eastern.
PG - Athough I had the same weather and ended up hunting public this year, I still managed to call up several groups. I had a huge tom and hen come from long distance only to skirt around and above on what we call the cliff ... then the hen came to the edge popping out the searching clucks which I imitated back to her .. after a minute she left and then the huge tom suddenly came to the edge ... he was bobbing left and right, up and down while trying to find me ... when I shot, he bobbed again and I only succeeded in knocking off half a dozen feathers. Watched as he flew off and then ran off with his entourage of a dozen hens. I've named him "Ali" for his rope-a-dope tactics (he had the long rope, so I guess I'm the dope) ... next year. I did get to shoot a few others with my camera. And it did beat staying at work and home ...
