As you know, there are some great bulls in Unit 6. My brother and I saw 3 of em together one summer in there and two of em were damned close to 140.

Good luck and I'll be watching this thread also.

Looks like this thread is going to turn in to two moose hunts, not just one.  My 9 year old son drew a Mt Spokane youth moose tag.  Gonna need to buy a freezer if it all works out.   When it rains it pours.   :IBCOOL:

Very nice!  Congrats to you both!  Looking forward to seeing the outcome, especially if you connect with "The Trail Cam Tank"!

Well - the scouting begins.  Finally after taking care of family obligations for the last 6 weeks I am free.  Its been torture waiting this long to go.  I am heading out this afternoon to Idaho to set up a couple cameras and get a good feel for the areas with moose.  Hopefully come back with some good pictures to share.

I will be up in unit 1 around priest lake it will be our second moose hunt over there. If there are to many moose in your area send some up our way. Hoping to see a wolf. Hope you have a great hunt.

Spent the weekend scouting, covered a lot of ground looking at different areas since I am not familiar with the area.  Up high there was a lot of snow.  Friday night I had a place picked out to put out a camera but couldnt make it in.  After busting through snow drifts up to 4 ft deep and 20-30 ft long decided we should probably turn around.  Around the next corner was solid 4ft snow as far as we could see.  A little disappointing.  Who would have thought that we would have that problem in the middle of July.

Saturday morning we were out early.  We were covering a different part of the unit in the lower elevations.  Ended up seeing a cow moose and a calf about 10 am while we were walking a logging road through a clearcut that looked to be 5-10 years old or so.  Not much sign - but hey, saw a moose.  Ended up seeing a total of 5 moose, 10 head of elk, tons of deer, and a small black bear.  Pretty good day.  No bull moose however.

Sunday morning I decided to take another route to get to where I wanted to set up the trail camera.  The road was worse but not so much snow.  The last qtr mile or so had up to 4 ft drifts but only for short stretches so we were able to bust through them and made it to where we could hike in.  Saw some fresh moose tracks not 10 yards from the pickup.  Hiked in and got the camera set up.  Lots of snow in there still!

Going to go back in a couple weeks to check out some more spots.  Gotta find where the bulls are.

Heading back over to scout again this weekend.  Third trip in 4 weeks, not sure how the wife is letting me get away with this.  Looking over some new areas.  Seening a few moose, some tracks and sign.  Have only seen 1 small bull.  The moose seem to be only active first two hours of the day and the last two hours of the day.  Going to put out a couple more cameras this weekend and hopefully get some pics to share.  I figured I would be seeing more bulls than this....   :dunno:
