The ex and his brother used to go up to copalis rocks and wade out and surf fish for surf perch they always brought lots home  :dunno: figure he is my ex I can share his spot  :chuckle:

they used surf rods which are gigantic and these weights shaped like a triangle you can find them at the hardware store in Ocean shores, dont recall what sort of hook or bait was used...and they wore waders for wading out into the surf....

I used cutt bait when jetty fishing, you would catch rock fish to ling cod during the days and dogfish at night( at westport) for perch we used to find the tube worms rip them off slice them open and put the worm on the hook, seemed to work pretty well. Also used to see people jig for them off the piers.

The jetty at Westport used to be awesome! It was dangerous to get out on, and you could catch tons of bass and some nice lings. Then they re did it and now everyone can walk out there. Last time was the last time I will fish it, no fish in 4 hours when you normally could catch 100. A certain group of people keep everything that swims, and it sucks now

Surf perch love razor clam necks! Us a small hook like a no. 2 to 4 octopus style. We find adding a small pink corkie pinned with a toothpick helps too! Keeps the bait off the bottom a bit.

Look for the dirty parts of the surf. Thats the plankton blooms, which attract everything. Sometimes fishing is good everywhere, but if its slow move and keep trying.

You will need a rod and line that can handle casting a 2 to 4 oz weight really far! An 8 to 12, 9 foot steelie rod is too light!
I like at minimum a 9 foot rated to 8 to 17 fast action.

As a kid we camped along the Strait (I think near Seiku, not sure) and fished for perch.  I remember heavy pyramid weights and 2-3 hooks.  Don't remember what we used for bait.  We used our normal trout poles.  I also remember that we caught a lot of them when we weren't fighting the seaweed that was caught up in the line.
