Just picked up Magnus Stingers. Thoughts?
« on: July 15, 2011, 07:09:42 PM »
My draw weight has gone down to 50lbs or so so, I was in the market for a 2 blade broadhead.  I wanted to go down to an 85gn 2 blade but, I couldn't find them so, I settled on the 85gn Magnus Stingers.  They are the same shape as the 2 blade 100gn version I saw but have 2 small bleeder blades technically making it a 4 blade.  The bleeder blades are small enough I don't think they'll interfere with penetration.  Thoughts?

Stingers and buzzcuts are great heads. I have been around animals shot with both and liked the results. I have my wife and little bro shoot the buzzcuts. I really like them on bows under about 55lbs.

I have no personal experience with them, but thought I would mention that I see Muzzy Phantoms come in a two-blade 85 gr. option . . .

best of luck w/ whatever BH you go with

The steel on the Muzzy is a little better than the Magnus but it is still a good head.  Stinger was the right choice over the BuzzCut.  Never understood the reason to add dull spots that promote coagulation, but I'll try not to write a book here.  I strongly suggest the use of a Lansky sharpener and honing with the 22 degree angle and the Yellow ceramic stone.  That will get you as close to a commercial razorblade as you can get with that steel.  Not too bad of people to support there either.  Good luck.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Sounds like a good choice for lower poundage.
