I have been working on a load for my 264 and it's not grouping like I want.  I am using 140gr accubonds and the starting load of h 4831 per the nosler manual.  Its shooting 2 to 3 in groups now.  I am wondering if maybe I should adjust the seating depth of the bullet or try a slower burning powder.  I know this caliber likes slow burning powders but if I find the right seating depth, could that solve to grouping issue?  Thanks

Indeed change some things around. When loading for a new gun I start at the minimum load level for that cal and load 4 rounds in .5 increase working up to the max. Most of my guns are well past what the books say for a oal. So playing with your seating depth may be something you want to look at that as well. I shoot a ton of 4831 pretty much the only powder i shoot in my rifles .25 cal and larger. I also shoot some 4350 in a few of my long range guns.

The 264 works best with powders even slower than 4831. I would try switching to something slower and see if that helps. Seating depth can also make a big difference. Also, you could try a different weight bullet. Maybe a Barnes 120 grain. (I think they make those)

rl-22 or IMR-7828 are my go to powders in the 264. My current load is 140gr accubonds and H-1000.
Like most of the hot rod cartridges I've played with, I've found the 264 likes to go fast and the best groups have always been at or above book max powder charges, this is where a crony is your freind.

I've had really good consistent success 140g Partitions pushed by IMR4350.  I'd have to look up my load recipe since it's been quite a while since I've reloaded rounds for it, like 10-12 years or so.  I'm fairly certain that the powder charge is the middle recommended charge in the Nosler Manual.  Simply because it's the only load recipe that is not the max or max+ for all the different ammo I load for my various calibers.  My 264 was all over the map with the max charge.  I stepped it up for a few loads to .3 over max and it didn't change.  As I worked down from max, it got better until I settled in where it was happy.  Again, I'd have to look to see what the current powder charge is.  I do have a handful of RL22 with 130 Accu's that it seemed to like too.

140g Nosler Acubonds or partitions H-4831 over all load length of 3.34 CCI 250 primer muzzle velocity of 3,173 give it a shot shoots MOA out of my gun!

I think I'll figure out the seating depth and then find a powder next.  Not sure on the twist rate, it was built for my grandfather, and the gunsmith s memory is getting old. I know its a 26 in barrel they ordered from Winchester, I'll have to look up some info on it.  What would you suggest as a starting load for 7828, I can't find any info for the 140 accubonds on their website?  Also how far off the lands are you guys setting the bullet, I have heard closer the better, buy ever 264 is different

Ya might take a look at the nosler forum. Those guys talk about the 264 quite a bit. Reloader-25 and retumbo gets mentioned alot. Seating depth is discussed frequently as an important factor related to accuracy. I,ve loaded the accubonds in three calibers and seating depths ranged from .015 off the lands in my 300 mag to .088 in my 270. Let the rifle tell you what it likes. The accubond is a very accurate bullet once ya find that sweet spot.
