trailcam advice

Iam looking at getting trail cam  up to $125,would like opions good and bad,would probably get from cabellas,this will be my xmas present to myself,might buy up to 3,really want to know which ones to avoid.

It really just depends on how much you want to spend and how you're going to use it. Buying from Cabelas is a good idea because of their return policy. A good one they have right now for cheap is the Wildview EZ-Cam 2.0 MP for $59.99. You could have three for only $180. I have one and it's been reliable. The biggest downside is the slow trigger speed, but mine works great as long as I'm using bait. For setting up to watch a trail with no bait it might not be a good choice, as you'll end up with a lot of pictures of nothing. Another one you could look at is the Primos 35 or Primos 46. They're a little more money but trigger speed won't be an issue. I believe some of the Moultries are good options but I can't really say. I have two Moultries but they are older models that are no longer made. I see Cabelas has a couple of the Moultries for $89.99 right now. Midway USA has some good deals right now.  The Wildview 3.0 MP with a 2GB SD card for $65 is a good camera. I got one way back when the same sale came on.  Takes great pics for a 3MP camera.  Shutter speed and reset time is a bit long for no-bait trail use, but overall I'm happy with it.  The more bells and whistles, the more they cost, so it's all in how you want to use it...

A couple of places have decent 3mb cam's for $40 this weekend.  At that price, you can buy 3, use one and have the other two as backups when they inevitably get stolen.  Unless you've got a really good reason to have excellent high quality photo's, 3mb should be enough in most instances, plus they're cheap enough when they get stolen, it will not sting as much.

I have a Moultrie that I do not even use as it was too unreliable.

IMO trigger speed is more important than # of pixels.  I have a Stealthcam that is reliable as I have used it almost continuously for three years but the trigger is a bit slow.

A tip for slow trigger speed is to set it facing down a trail

get a cuddyback they are the best. cabelas has them for about 100.00  the old ones anyways

I have two different tasco's.  Their cheapest $50 cam and an $80 one.  The $80 one I just bought but so far am happy with it.  The only problem I have with the cheaper one is that it is not IR, only the old style white flash.  It took plenty of pictures for me this summer though.  I bought a couple of the wildgame inovations cheaper $60 cams from walmart a few weeks ago that I took back right away.  They were too loud when taking pictures.  It was a VERY noticable clicking sound when it snapped pics.  That's not something I want in my camera.

Which Wholesale Sports? I might pick up another one if they've got them at $40. I've got two now and they work great for the price. I paid $40 each for them about a year ago but haven't seen them that low since.

I had no idea you could order from Wholesale Sports online. That's a great tip. I'll have to try that. We've got a Wholesale Sports in Lacey, 10 minute drive from where I work.
