Powder or Pellets

I had more misfires with pellets then I've ever had with powder !! I'll never go back to pellets.

I like loose powder.  I just can't get over the price of pellets in addition to the 50gr increments.  Seems like if your gun's sweet spot is at 90gr or 125 gr you can't get it just right with pellets.  With the speed loaders available, I don't see any advantage to pellets?

loose powder for me.  I switched over this past season and really wish I would have changed sooner.  I get way more shots before fowling with the loose powder.  I believe that the loose powder doesn't suck up the moisture like the pellets.

I've been hunting with muzzleloaders for over 25 years and I have never tried pellets. Started out with real black powder, then went to Pyrodex, and now I use Triple 7. Honestly I just don't see what the advantage is to using the pellets. It's not hard or time consuming to weigh out a few charges and fill up the speed loaders.

Powder for me. I played with pellets when I first started shooting a smoke pole. Much better luck with powder over pellets You can play with loads as well a lot more then with pellets. With pellets you get 100g or 150g

You can get 30 grainers in Pyrodex Pellets..... I shoot 130 grains of them..... I couldn't get good groups with any kind of powder from 85 grains to 130 grains..... Got some pellets the next day put in 150 grains.... Bullets would tumble and hit sideways...      Backed down to 130 grains of pellets not sure of anything at the moment and I get great groups with a nice trajectory..... I don't shoot much past 100 yards but it helps....    Only powder/bullet combo I could get decent groups with....

I started out last year with 777 pellets and they worked well all year long.  I probably shot 500 rounds and it was my first year.  This year I had nothing but trouble with them and switched to powder.  There is definately less delay with loose than pellets and I have had much more consistent shots with loose.

Has anyone tried American Pioneer powder? I used it for a couple years and it really shoots clean! First ones I tried I got from Verles in Shelton and it came in the plastic jar with pre measured plastic tubes of 100gr I think it was. Couldn't find them after that so just used the loose powder and still seems to work nice and shoots really clean. Went back to modern last year so I don't know when I'll go back to the ML stuff again although I do enjoy shooting them. A friend was using pellets in his Renegade and not having too good of luck but still stuck with them. Now he's wanting to sell the Renegade. We were wondering if maybe the pellets were meant mostly for the inlines rather than the more tradional muzzleloaders. Any ideas?

The pellets are designed for 209 primers, they are hotter than #11's or musket caps, switch to loose and see what happen

I tried the pellets and had decent results the first season but when I went to shoot again the next summer they were very inconsistent.  Like they have a shelf life or something.  I have a bottle and a half of 100gr sticks if anyone want to give it a try.
