I was up at work yesterday and ran across a herd of 50-60 animals. Lots of cows, a few spikes, raghorns and some lesser 6's. One of the 6's was already out of velvet ~ seemed kind of early to me. He wasn't real big maybe 240-250 inches and everything else in the herd with horns was still fuzzy. Isn't he a month or better early? Anyone else see this yet?

Begining of August is usually when the mature bulls will start rubbing.

Its a bit early, but then the doe Lil photographed by camp in the Methow this weekend was coming out of her red already

I heard that we are due for an early fall & winter. I know my apple trees have never been so loaded or early as they are this year.

more than 1 of the bulls i saw in the blues this weekend had some velvet hanging.

Spent last weekend walking the elk woods up high. We didn't see any fresh rubs yet so no evidence that they are rubbing but would agree with Bone that first part of August is generally the time frame so wouldn't be surprised if a few started already.

I'd say that was real early, I've run into mature bulls in late August that all still had their velvet. But July, to me that is crazy.

Hiked all around my area and usually loaded with rubs but I couldn't find a one. Had the wife with me and wanted to show her how much the trees get torn up, but none around.

They usually start shedding about a week into August in my area with most doing it around the 13th to the 15th.

Saw 4 Teanaway bulls Wednesday - all in velvet, but done growing antlers.

Occasionally but rarely a Bull will not lose his antlers and he will keep them for an extra year...that is what you may have seen. I have been scouting alot already because I drew a special permit and I have seen lots of Elk and Bulls and they all look in the "normal" velvet mode to me..............Les

Was out the other day and saw lots of rubs, I saw some cows and a spike. His spikes were crazy long but in the velvet.

Last sunday a friend of mine was out feeding his moo cows down by Cathlamet and a bull cut loose with a bugle on the hill above his farm. Sure gets the blood pumping.

Can't wait to call in a bull for my son! Come on September!

yeah all the bulls i have seen are still in velvet going to check my cam here in next weekend will post some pics. Ihad a bull bugle at me aug. 12th last year

They are starting to rub right here, one bull has lastic wrapped up in his horns.

Last week ( end of july ) I saw quite a few bulls up in the Colockum area. One was a smallish 6pt in full velvet. Several spikes and raghorns in velvet. Did see 2 bigger bulls that were out of velvet. It was pretty cool to see.

If those indian brothers are up there like they have for the past few years, I doubt very many of the bulls you saw will be around come regular hunting season.

These bulls were all seen off the road within about 30 minutes of driving. Is that where I've read on here before that these indian bro's go to get there elk?

I know of one 5 point in the Kelso area that has velvet hanging, the 3 others he's with still in full velvet. Won't be long.

I had a 4+5 bugle right in front of my dad and I yesterday. It had to be his first of the year if i had not seen it i would have sworn it was a dude ( funny sounding bugle)

Talked to a few guys at the gun range this last week and they said the majority of the bulls in the Margaret Unit are hard horned already....

Those boys(Indian Bros) were so proud of themselves at the sportsman show. They planned on doing a sweep in the elk category I think, but they didn't expect to find a boneaddict in thier midst.

someone should contact there tribe and have this stopped this is bull *censored*

I work for an Indian tribe an this is not the way they all are by any means. One of my best friends is an indain and my hunting partner. If anyone gets what tribe they are from and there names I would be happy to contact there tribe and try and put a stop to this. this is a down right discusting thing there is no need to kill that many animals period. I could understand 2- maybe 3 to feed their famileys but 16 is just crazy. no wonder the elk were gone by 1900!!!!!!!!!!!!
