For salmon, and springers especially, scent matters.  Springers are damn finicky fish, and scent can make all the difference.  Others, like coho in the ocean, it probably doesn't matter much as they are aggressively feeding on anything they can get in their mouth.

I wonder how much scent transfer goes on between every thing you touch with your gloves and your bait? Because lets face it you touch everything with your hands and than you touch your baits and scent is transferred. I think it is more about the bait and presentation than anything else if you start with good bait than your going to be leaps and bounds above most people out on the water. You cant take bad bait and make it good no matter how much scent you put on it! I have tried and learned the hard way! The presentation is the next step if you have a good presentation and good bait chances are you going to catch fish!

I couldn't agree with you more, good bait followed by good presentation are the most important things.  You watch the guys that are fishing with last years old silver eggs and compare them to how there doing against guys that are fishing with fresh late winter run eggs and you'll see a big difference.  Same thing goes with hearing.  If you cure them and don't use them toss them.  Only use fresh.

I heard fire cure came out with a new hearing cure.  Has anybody tried it yet?  It's a wet cure I believe, you don't have to add any water to it.

Yeah I think people take this stuff to far sometime.  I do agree with adding scent when I fish.  I use all different kinds of Smelly Jelly.  But when I am done I just wipe down my spinners and plug and put them away.  And my dad is all crazy about cleaning, no putting them in with other lures, scrubbing them down, uses the gloves, washed hands with some special hand wash for fishing all different kinds of stuff but trip after trip I will catch more fish then him fishing side by side in the boat or shore using the same stuff.  So I think this kind of stuff is going a little to far.   :twocents:

I have never wore gloves when bank fishing springers on the salmon or clearwater river and always catch fish. Grabbing those stinky cured eggs than adding scent to yarn and eggclusters then it hits the water and washes alot off.

You guys are over thinking springers. I have never used gloves. Don't own a bottle of lemon joy. Still manage to fill a punch card every year. It's more about hitting the fish in the head with the bait.

Check N. Bonneville, or Carson, or Cascade Locks across the river.

better hurry the last day for sportsmen is April 6, 2012. That's when I will begin fishing just to avoid confrontation between sportsmen and natives. I do believe scent is a big part, but so is presentation, like live sand shrimp they really seem to like them if you can keep them from pissing on each other and killing themselves.

i started wearing gloves because out of the blue, egg cure started giving my hands a reaction.  they get super sensitive to hot/cold, then the skin hardens up and slowly peels off.  fished eggs for 15+ years and it just started happening one day.

i'm not one of those guys that wears them whenever i'm fishing though.  just mostly when fishing eggs or tuna balls(that kind of stink just doesn't come off).
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun
