Best BH weight for elk hunting? Suggestions!
« on: June 19, 2012, 11:47:00 AM »
I have not hunted elk with my bow before just deer and have been very successful.  I have always shot the Thunder head BH 100gr for deer but wondered if I should step up.  I have a quality bull tag this year and want to make sure I have everything dialed in.

I would step up to a better broadhead.  100 grains is fine probably the normal weight.   Thunderheads are a thing of the past haven't changed in almost 20 years or more.   There are better broadheads  out there.

It all depends on your arrow: length, arrow spine, FOC, etc.  I shoot 100 grain broadheads for elk, and know many others who shoot them as well.  When it comes down to it, bows are wicked fast and most have more than enough kinetic energy to put down any animal on the planet.  Get the broadhead size that you can shoot the most accurately

Lots of good heads out there now days.  Cabelas has shuttle T's in its bargain cave right now online.   I've shot a lot of broadheads over the years.  I do like slick tricks for the price.

Slick Tricks for sure. They cut bigger holes than a 3 blade.

Stick with the thunderheads.  Just because they are old does not mean the will not work.  In fact they have for 20 years.  I know a lot of people who still shoot thunderheads.    If your bow is tuned correct.  You don't take percentage shots.  And place your arrow well.  You will have your Quality elk!
