Manual rattling is fine.  ELECTRONIC calling devises for deer and turkey is illegal. see See 2012 hunting regulations page 76, rule #13.

what's actually funny about this, when i would hunt with my dad and I was still in high school,  I had a spray on Apple attractant for deer and it just smelled SO good I used it for perfume in school!!!

I was thinking of hanging a bag of chopped apples in a tree to keep a scent trail there even when the deer had eaten the apples I put out.

  Good idea... My husband likes the really ripe apples and smears them on the ground with his boot.

Apple attractant sounds like a good idea as well... I read somewhere that vanilla is also a good attractant and maybe cedar...
