I’ve been thinking about building a custom gun off of my rem 700 .300 RUM… this one is sounding pretty good

I think the "custom" statement was made because of reamer design. A quick search only shows Savage with one on the market. So if you want a 7PRC but not a Savage, I guess it's going to be "custom".

Hey, if someone wants a new toy cool rock on, but there is a whole lot of marketing behind it and it probably will do okay because of that, not because it fills a void in the market.

Dead is dead, 7PRC, 7RM, 7SAUM.... it really doesn't matter, that's all I'm saying.

I see bullet selection and making a good shot far more important than which comparable 7mm cartridge to select.

Ya this sure is getting the marketing and it sure has me thinking, was 90% settled on building a 280 AI and have been thinking since June (the 10%) wait till a bit more information is out, now I’m thinking the build might just have to be this

I have a LA Rem 700 all done up ready to go that's been sitting on the shelf for a couple years now waiting to get turned into something and I've got a couple Bartlein 8.5tw .284 barrels inbound.  I've been wanting to build my daughter something that'll kind of be a good do all rifle that had pretty decent legs to it, had manageable recoil, and if I wasn't around, preferably that'll be a longggg time from now  she'd be able to get good factory ammo for it.  Both barrels are Bartlein's 3B profile so they won't be real big but still have enough muzzle dia. to thread 5/8x24 to run a can on it and I'll have it finished at 22.  Even with a 22 I'm guessing it'll be in the 2900-2950 range with 180's but only time will tell.

Maybe by then factory ammo will be available!  Just hoping for brass somewhere.

I got my two new 5R 3B barrels, one will finish at 22 the other 26,  from Bartlein Tuesday and I'm already second guessing my idea of going 7 PRC.  I already have lots of new 7 Blaser mag brass, already have the dies, Shawn already has a 7 Blaser mag reamer from the first one he built for me and I pretty much know what to expect with another 7 Blaser build sooo other than factory ammo, which may or may not be all that available, I'm starting to think maybe I'll just have Shawn build me another 7 Blaser for my daughter but in a shorter 22in barrel configuration.  Since I already have everything I'll need with a 7 Blaser, for me, it may be the smarter choice.

True, but are any of them doing it with factory ammo? 

For me, the only reason the 7 PRC interested me was since this would be a build for my daughter and I don't foresee her ever doing any reloading, years from now, the 7 PRC could be the better choice but I'm already starting to second guess that plan and now I'm leaning toward a 22in 7 Blaser build instead of a 7 PRC.

I will definitely have one in the safe. It's a well put together 7mm from top to bottom and Hornady has shown a habit of keeping stuff on the shelves for their creations, and so has the rest of the industry.
