Stamp question clarification

Always put it on the back of my license and signed across it. Brother says not needed and just keep it in your pocket. Looked casually but couldn’t find a specific rule. Anyone have a definitive ruling?

Page 10 of the Gamebird regs states that all hunters must possess a federal duck stamp signed in ink across the front. It does not say it must be attached to your license, just in your possession.

Mr. Green Jeans checked me recently.  Correct MUST be signed so you can't transfer/share it with someone else.

I just sign mine and keep with my license as every new thing you add to your license, they print a new one out.

 Although I live in Washington I rarely hunt in Washington for waterfowl, Oregon mostly. Oregon's license is all on a app on your phone, so I just carry my stamp on the back side of my phone under the cover. then when I hunt Washington I just have to remember to grab my license holder. I sure wish Washington would go to the app

Oregon's licensing method is ten times better.  Can't imagine it's not easier to manage than WA current method.  Just pull up the OR app it's all there!

I prefer paper. Johnny Law can use his app to pull up my info.

I’m now a statistic for once being a duck stamp holder for almost 30 years because no areas to hunt anymore.  Was hoping to hunt waterfront for at least another 25 years but when I did, never liked taking the cell to the blind.

Personally I hate it. What happens if you get checked and your phone is dead, dropped it in the lake, etc.? You now no longer are in possession of your license and are subject to citation.

Same thing happens if you drop your paper tags in the lake, or they get wet and crumble, etc.

It's good they offer both options, everyone can chose the method they prefer.

Either way, wardens know if you have a license or not.

Note that even when they are in the field and without cell reception, ODFW and OSP will also be able to see information about licenses/tags/validations you purchased and to check your confirmation number (which indicates you have electronically tagged your big game animal).‌‌

They should start doing the fed duck stamp electronically also. North Dakota will let you use the electronic receipt for 45 days, after that you have to have the physical stamp. Twice I’ve bought the duck stamp @ Scheel’s & it was supposed to be mailed from the vendor that makes them. Both of those I had to buy he stamp twice because the vendor doesn’t send them out as required.

Years ago a friend of mine was checked by a warden on his way back to the pickup- don’t know if it was state or fed, but he had forgotten his license at home. THe warden checked & confirmed that he had a valid license & then wrote him a $400 ticket for not having it with him. So I do both he electronic & print it out just in case a come a warden that doesn’t keep up with technology or accept that the new laws allow it.

There's currently a bill in Congress proposing an electronic duck stamp that is valid for all season. The current electric stamp is only valid for 45 days nationwide, it's meant to be a temporary stamp.
