Fall Bear Bag Limit and Season Change
« on: February 12, 2024, 08:54:15 AM »
Keep your eyes open! Wildlife Commission is proposing the following :

One bear and not two in the fall, a change from when it was bumped UP in 2019
Season start date of September 1st
Sunset clause that allows them to fully scrap a hunt after review every three years, but WDFW does this anyway

Emails are below! They are banking on you being too tired from the superbowl to notice! There is no public comment period and this mtg is at 3pm today!

Washington Wildlife Commission
lorna.smith@dfw.wa.gov
barbara.baker@dfw.wa.gov
molly.linville@dfw.wa.gov
woodrow.myers@dfw.wa.gov
john.lehmkuhl@dfw.wa.gov
james.anderson@dfw.wa.gov
timothy.ragen@dfw.wa.gov
steven.parker@dfw.wa.gov
melanie.rowland@dfw.wa.gov

I would also copy your message to the governor, these are appointed roles and not voted so there's almost NO accountability. Gov Inslee is the only one they roll up to.

Be respectful above all, represent well but let them know we are listening!

Just sent 9 polite emails saying those season dates are important to my friends and family because they are. Very easy.

I sent emails and comments
I also sent some yard bear pictures with a few comments about
What’s it going to take to keep bear numbers in check having your wife or kids surprised in the yard or hurt

Something to consider

Flood them with emails with pictures of the “declining” bear population
Maybe it will hit home when they think about it in their backyard

They are saying statewide September 1st opener as pre 2019. Western wa was never sep 1. It was an august opener. Misleading to their agenda.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

The only time I've ever hunted bears was in August.  That was specifically because it opened early and was something fun to do until fall rolled around.

August is when the kids can hunt without worrying about school. They are discriminating against youth hunters as this hurts their opportunity more than others. They are stealing our heritage and ability to keep these predators in check

I'll be honest ,I didn't watch.
Didn't want to puke 🤮 in my mouth and I was busy.

I'm just gonna take a wild guess and assume that everything in the anti-hunters petition went through.
I just can't even watch it.

What is their reasoning for this if it's always been in August? Are they trying to pull a fast one or are they actually unaware that it's always opened in August?

Their reasoning is... the anti-hunting commissioners don't give a rip.  Just following their agenda.

Gary
One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset

Anti hunters petitioned saying we are killing 50 percent more bears and disrupting cougars social structure(they now want cougar depredation kills to be included with the quota). Start paying attention wild life for all and Washington wildlife first don’t believe in predator hunting. They think predators will self regulate

This just ruined my day. One more of 1000 cuts on our way to no opportunity as hunters in Washington just as the commission plans. This will unfortunately lead to many more bears and cougars killed on roadways, by wardens, and shot and left to lay by disgruntled residents who are justifying it somehow because they were wronged by these anti hunters who have sole control of our demise.I’m  Looking at property in Montana or North Dakota and logistics of moving or selling our business in the next few years. I will take my money somewhere I am not despised for being a hunter. I love this state but not if I can’t do the things I love.
