Selling the 2019 Tacoma

I haven't hunted in 2 seasons and I'm selling it to Carmax for $33K, and getting a Chevy Equinox. They're paying the sales tax on the new car, too. So it's almost $36K, which isn't bad for a truck I've driven for 5 years and bought for $41K. Going to miss it but for the kind of hunting I'll ever be doing from now on, the crossover will fill the bill. Fuel efficiency is almost double and I'll get $13K back besides. Nice to have a little buffer in the bank until rates start falling.

Right now its still a sellers market.
Especially for pickups.
Tried to buy a pickup last year and gave up.
Dealers were thinking us stupid for what they were asking for them.
We looked for 2 door small pickups but it seems they dont make them anymore.
Wound up buying a Mazda cx 30 for her and I found a 92 F 250 for me.
Crossovers seem to be the new station wagons now.

I just traded in my 2007 duramax over the weekend and got $19k plus the $1,900 in sales tax deduction for a truck I drove for 17 years.

At some point you just need to say now is the time and get your used car gone while the prices are high. The news ones will never be as cheap as they used to be but the used ones will start losing their value like they used to probably sooner than later.

I too have an 07 duramax with 137xxx miles...don't understand why I should trade that in for something new and close to 80k+k  ?

On a trade in you dont have to pay sales tax on the value of your trade. So for example if you pay $40,000 for a rig and they give you $33,000 for a trade in. You only pay sales tax on the $7000 difference. Or at 8.6% tax rate that would be about $522.00.

To get $3000 in sales tax paid, if my math is right you would have to pay about $65,000 for the Equinox.

If it’s still working for what you use it for then don’t.  I was just like you for years but have decided it was time.  Maintenance costs are going up and when you start to review how much you are putting into an older truck with a rusty undercarriage and other issues that 17 years of hard usage gives a truck eventually you have to replace it.

The new $60-$90k versions of the Duramax far out perform the 07 Duramax. I never thought I would say it but it is the truth when you look into them. If I get 15-20 years out of this truck it will put me at retirement and I will only need to buy 1 more truck in my life. When it’s your time you will know.

Wife’s 2012 Equinox is a bit over 100000 miles. I’ve kept up on all recommended periodic maintenance over the years. A few sets of tires and a few batteries replaced but the old Chevy has been 100% reliable. She’s getting ready to head back to the Big Sky State in a few weeks for a HS girlfriend rendezvous and as history supports, I have no doubt the Equinox will once again, do well on the trip. Not sure if you cats got lemons or what, but, I’d buy another in a heartbeat if the old one finally gives up the ghost.

I test drove one last year and ended up buying the traverse instead. The only real bad thing I heard about the equinox is in the diesel versions. In my opinion they don’t get driven hard enough to have a diesel engine.
