Move around, a lot.
Early season, the fish are spread put.
If you are shallow, try going deeper. Don't be afraid of current.
Try just below the bridge in shallow water.
Upriver past the rest area on the WA side or the green can on the OR side.
Did I mention  move around .

My buddy was down there today on the oregon side just out from the rogue brewery and they went 3 keepers for 5 rods, lost 2 big boys and released 10 shakers. They started out above the bridge on the WA side and couldn't buy a bite, moved and got lucky.

Grind, grind, grind, wind, fightn currents, even put the boat on the trailor and moved. Drank beer, bbq'd burgers and dogs,  settled just upriver of the astoria bridge and nothing all day, then at 4:45 talking about getting the hell out and not even paying attention to the rods I just happen to look up and say "that rod is doing something funny" and damn-it dave grabs the rod and seys yep, fish on! 50 minutes later and lots of good video and all 4 of us taken a turn the bad boy finally gives and belly ups at the boat, hook released and off goes the 9, 10 footer!

We launch out of Chinook and usually catch our limits pretty easily.  If your not getting bit for 45 minutes or so, then move.  Also watch the tides and the bite will pick up at the change of the tides many times.

Fishing was really slow yesterday. We got 3 shakers. I think I seen about 18 boats on the water. Very few people out.

I launched @ Deep River

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook twice?

Of course they are, no fishing for them there---except for those doing it illegally without the fear of 30 other boats watching them now that they moved the line way down river for us legal folks... :bash:
