Dito on the propane.  I've used it a number of times.  Sometimes you get such a percussion the mole comes out of another hole like a rocket :IBCOOL:!  Fun for the whole family including the dogs :chuckle:!  Tunnels have to be deep though.  Otherwise the gas escapes and you just catch the grass on fire.  The long propane torches used for burning garden weeds work best.

If you know someone with an old "Halon" fire extinguisher that works probably the best.  But, it is not nearly as fun as propane.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

My Dad always used a shovel.  Packed the hill down and watched for when they dig.  He'd scoop them out with a swipe of the shovel and wack 'em.  He rid the whole neighborhood of them.

Does he just stand there waiting? I could see him standing there for a long time waiting. He must be a patient man. I couldn't do it...I'd freak out waiting.

Hello, illegal as heck. Doubt you would sell very many before the cops would swoop down on you.

That's how my grandpa taught me to do it when I was a teen. Got a few of them that way...usually it was more luck than patience :)

Got one last year by flooding him out. He had been digging so I threw the hose down the hole and cranked it up. Next thing I know a mole is floating out of the hole gasping for breath. Quick smack with the shovel and I (or should I say it) was done  :IBCOOL:

I'm really loving reading about these little vermin getting what they deserve. 8)   Way to go.

Maybe the state should have a special permit drawing for moles for any weapons.
