Not really a youth moose tag!!
« on: July 19, 2012, 12:15:14 PM »
My buddy's boy was 15 when he put in for youth hunts. He ended up drawing a klickatat any buck youth hunt and a cow moose tag in MT Spokane. He got the deer tag in the mail and didn't get the moose tag. In the mean time he turned 16 before receiving the moose tag and now has to pay full adult price for his youth moose hunt.

Is this right????? sounds like something washington would do but just looking to see what you guys have to say about this. :dunno:

that aint right, but it wouldnt suprise me here in washington, way to mess over the young hunter, thats a hell of way to get a young hunter started, thanks wdfw, hopefully they will fix it, now if they dont does that mean this young fella cant put in for moose again or does that only happen when an adult draws a any moose tag?
my grandpa always said "if it aint broke dont fix it"

Why did he wait to receive the permit in the mail? He shouldn't have needed that to go online and pay for the tag.

Looks like that was a $275 mistake.  :o

He might want to try calling the WDFW office in Olympia and see if they will make an exception and give him the youth price, even though he is no longer qualified for it.

That is b.s.  If it is a youth permit, he should pay youth prices!  He should make a stink about it.

"A "youth" is defined as a resident or non-resident under 16 years of age at the time of license purchase."

It does work both ways.  A 15 could buy a youth license or tag, and hunt with it at age 16.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

That's not right, I turned 16 in Sept. Before hunting season started. I was able to purchase and submit youth tags because I bought my license in the summer when I was 15. You have a youth tag you should be able to pay for a youth tag.
The more boys I meet, the more I love my dog!!

Why, when he screwed up by not purchasing the tag before he turned 16? It's not the WDFW's fault. The youth price is for people under the age of 16. He is not, therefore he pays full price. Even at $332 for the tag, it's the cheapest moose hunt he'll ever experience.

+1 bobcat! Should have bought the tag before turning 16. If not at least count your blessings by at least being able to use up the youth points that will not be useable anymore anyways. $330 or whatever the tag costs is well worth it for a moos IMO. buy the tag and enjoy the opportunity... he may never get to hunt moose in Aaron again!

Just doesn't seem right.  I know technically per the rules, he has to pay the adult price, but it doesn't seem right to me.

I guess if there is a youth that applies for a youth moose permit and his birthday is real close to the draw date, it would really suck if the draw happened one day after his/her 16th bday. :o  And they would then be required to pay the adult price..............

I guess that is just the way things go sometimes in life..........
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

It doesn't seem that technical to me.  You pay the youth price when you are a youth and pay the adult price when you are an adult.

you couldn't just go on line and buy it you had to wait for them to send you your green card with instructions to send check or money order along with your confirmation card to receive your tag....  at least this is how i had to get mine...

I would just pay and not make any waves chock it up as one of those life lessons. If you fight it they might say well he is now 16 and can not hunt this hunt.
When I pass, do not let my wife sell the guns for what I told her they cost.

There was a big time lapse between learning he received a permit and more time between that until he got the card notification and then had to wait some more before until they said to send money, I am sure he will pay the money and have a great hunt but If he drew the tag when 15 he shoud pay the youth tag the state already got the rest of us let the kids go.

this is one of those life lessons that will pop up from time to time.  dont put of until tomorrow what can be done today.  it still does suck though.
