i have 4 weatherby vanguards that will out shoot my remmy's with factory ammo. i feel that the vanguard is the best rifle going for the price.

I've got a Remmy with a factory tube I'll put up against your chinese vanguards.......

I've got a range that goes to 850 yards just up the road, 600 is easily obtainable.

(I will admit the vanguards are well built rifles though!)

Vanguards are made by Howa, in Japan, not China. If it was China, I would not own one.

The one Remington model 700 I had shot like poo. If I buy another Remmy, it will probably be just for the action so I can go custom.

I took a look at the weatherby but I always liked the Remington. Don't have too much experience with Weatherby. Are they as sturdy as a Remmy? Can you get parts almost in every major gun catalog for a Weatherby?

The Weatherby Vanguard and Howa parts are all the same, and readily available. In fact I just picked mine up from the gunsmith yesterday after having a new Timney trigger installed. Total cost: $130. Trigger is now at just under 2 lbs. Factory trigger was adjusted as light as it would go, at 4 1/4. Now that it's got a useable trigger I've got to get to work and get some shells loaded up, and see how it'll shoot. Oh, I've also replaced the factory plastic stock with a Bell & Carlson that I got off eBay. So no, there is no problem finding aftermarket parts. And for scope mounts, it takes the same ones that fit on the Remington 700's.

The only negative, and it's only a personal preference really, is that the Vanguard is a little on the heavy side. My gunsmith set mine on his scale and it was right at 8 1/2 pounds. That's with the scope, but still probably a half pound to a pound heavier than most other similar rifles. But I personally like a heavy rifle so no problem for me.

Yeah, I'm not saying the Vanguard is the best rifle out there. I'm sure Sako and Kimber are nicer. But I only paid $300 for the Vanguard brand new. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

Weatherby Vanguard models can now be found for as low as $399 ―the lowest price in years. And to help educate hunters and shooters about the rifles, Weatherby has launched the Web site http://www.399Weatherby.com.

At http://www.399weatherby.com hunters and shooters can narrow down their ideal Vanguard based on caliber, type of hunting, stock options, finish and more. They can also see a direct comparison to other manufacturers' rifles.

Vanguards remain the only production rifles to come with a factory-shot target and accuracy guarantee of a 1 ½-inch or better 3-shot group from a cold barrel at 100 yards with premium (non-Weatherby calibers) or Weatherby factory ammunition.

you get no accuracy guarantee with a kimber that costs 3 times as much....fyi.

i might grab up one of these vanguards...almost did a while back in 257 weatherby mag, but decided not to spend the money at the time.

I'd consider getting one in .204 but I just cannot afford any more guns until next year.

I bought one when I was 13, still shoots excellent. 300WM. Saved a whole year and bought it, and a Leupy VXII, and a padded leather sling that said WEATHERBY on it. Went all out! My first "real" rifle. I have a 700 in 223, shoots good, but my Vanguard is more solid.
