What does it mean when western Washington has wood ducks this late in the season? Is it not cold enough or what :dunno:

Temperature wise it has been fairly warm-to me anyways, I've been dying in my neoprene waders lol. Although the last week or so has been pretty cold maybe they were waiting to see if this cold spell was going to stay or not.

Nothing!  Their is a good local population that won't migrate unless everything freezes up.  You will continue to see them in January as well!
Cut em!

I have seen them on three different golf courses, 2 lakes that were 500 plus acres both of which were 90% surrounded by houses, a river in Idaho, and ponds with fallen trees, and sticks. So pretty much everywhere. Although I have never seen any in salt/brackish water.

First wood duck I shot on the west coast was in a pond in the sand dunes of central oregon.  It was pretty fresh though.  I've shot a lot on SW WA but do not want to post where, sorry.

I used to shoot a lot of wood ducks in SW Wash.  Lots of spots to get them.  Wooded ponds are a good area to check!

wooded ponds and sloughs, They will even sit on low branches and logs. Yakima River is good example of good wood duck habitat.

Most wooded ponds and creeks will have them on the east side.
