I agree. Even if they locked them up and it was walk in only i would still put in for that permit.

There are many roads around Winthrop that are closed Oct. 1st for all motorized vehicles. All of Ramsey, Bear creek rd. in 224. 3 or 4 long (miles long) spur roads in the chewuch that are gated all year! I really have no respect for the natives of this state!

Your master key will get you in nothing but trouble. Especially if its made in china and 30" long. :chuckle:

"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

So I wonder why that one area (Twisp) has had gated winter migration areas for years and another(Entiat) that I believe winters a bigger migratory herd doesnt have gates? An answer to that question would be a good start to figure out whether it is an option or not to get some gates in the entiat. I am sure that the game wardens would be in support of it as they get just as frustrated about the native problems that they can't do anything about and poaching and many other things that gates help alleviate.nwhunter

Laugh all you want, there are a couple things that could bring the tribes to their knees if the federal gov. really wanted to stick it to the indians, so I wouldn't get too cocky. ;)

I hunted above Twisp 15 years ago on a deer rut tag and there was a road system that had a sign on it that stated the road would be gated shut on a certain date for winter migration protection. This is what the Entiat needs without a doubt. Whether it be on Nov 1st every year or when it snows a foot ,close access to all those canyon roads like Crum, Potato, Mud etc. and leave it shut until May1. No quads no snowmobiles. Walkin or ride a horse.
Actually there are a few gates like that and the indians don't get keys to them either, like some have said.

Dec. 1st would work, everyone will be done hunting in there by then except for the Incentive, Raffle and Auction tag holders, but if you have a tag like that I'm sure you would not have a issue walking in knowing the heard has not been slaughtered because of it.

Couple areas like that in the Blues too. No human entry to protect wintering animals. You cant even walk in.

Maybe you can convert the hatred by explaining why your people need to shoot 15 large bucks in one day and how you justify that to yourselves.

All this tribal stuff sounds horrible. I have no exp with Yakima and Colville indians. But I have hunted where there are lots of Makah. None had gate keys. All hiked and biked and hunting just like me, cept I had a smokepole and they had modern rifles. All have been pretty nice to me with info and game plans. Even had lunch with a few. Too bad they can't all be like the ones I met. Theyv'e been good to me.
