First AR Questions
« on: December 18, 2012, 05:40:13 PM »
Hi Forum Readers,

I own several hunting rifles and a few shotguns and rimfire rifles. I am looking to purchase my first AR 15.
Here is what I am looking for:
       I can't spend more than $900.
I will use it to shoot coyotes out to 200 yards around my property.
It won't get shot a lot. Mostly for coyotes in the yard and home security.
I have no interest in building my own.
Simple is great. I am not interested in fancy or attaching a bunch of stuff to it.
Reliability and function are more important than looks.
I am primarily looking at .223.

From the research I have done and reviews I have read the Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport seems to be a solid choice for me. What are the opinions out there? Does anyone have any experience with the Smith and Wesson or any other AR's that fit my needs?

Thanks a ton!

You're kind of behind the 8 ball trying to find one now.  The Smith & Wesson is a decent gun, as are the Stag Arms.  Spikes Tactical are good guns but the backorder on Spikes right now is unreal.

A 16" mid length or carbine would suit your needs just fine.

Good luck.

Where you located?????  I know a couple of local stores that had some as of yesterday.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

If you are anywhere near Portland Oregon the GUN ZONE IN clackamas has 2 bull barell Stag #6's in stock but they want $1000 but you kinda decided to get one a little late, if you really want one you are gonna have to act fast, plus .223 ammo has all but dissappeared.

Thanks

Hmm, wonder why???  I went to Cabelas today and the line was so long they were calling numbers.  I think there were only about 6 AR style rifles left.  Everyone had carts full of ammo.  This is going to be the big one.  Their was a line at Skagit Arms and Kesserlings was also full.  Skagit was sold out on 5.56 ammo.  They only had the hunting rounds left.  The ammo is flying off the shelves.  I saw one guy with a full cart of every high capacity mag you could think of.
The Anti's are attacking every FB page, or Website that deals with guns or ammo it seams.  Cheaper than dirt is stopping it's gun sales.  Dick's is on stand bye until further notice.  Wal-Mart shut down it's internet gun offering and Anti's are encouraging those that have stock holding in gun manufactures and ammo to pull out.  S**t is hitting the fan.  Many of the guys on wait for AR-10 are out 10-12 months if they can even get them at that time.  So, this may have something to do with the ammo shortage.  Wait until next week when the shelves are empty.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I wouldn't think to long about getting one.  I bet by next week you will have trouble finding an AR or mags or ammo!  SKAGIT was selling a few per hour yesterday.

UPS the ammo. I don't think you can transport ammo through Canada. Call the Canadian Customs to get the right answer.
