I think a gun buy back would be conquered by firearms enthusiasts offering more money set up next to the cops buying the guns back.  Looking at the prices paid in other buy backs, I'd say there were some deals to be had!

I had that same thought. The cities seem to typically offer $100 per gun. What's to stop one of us from sitting up a table next to the front door of the 'Buy Back' program with a nice sign that offers $50 or $100 more per gun (depending on what it is).

I don't know of any laws that would prevent it.

I went to the gun buy back in Tacoma years ago.  All the guns were only worth 20 dollars.  Heck, I traded in a 22 Mag pistol that did not work, and when I showed it to Welcher's gun smith he said it was dangerous to shoot.  So I got 100 dollars for it...

Good trade....   They will most likely get the same lame trade-ins as well.

In my opinion, the worst part of the gun buy-backs is the historical weapons that are taken in by old grandmas or heirs of veterans etc.  I thought there was one back east where someone brought in a German MP44 (?).

Im sure the cops keep the weapons that are worth vastly more than the $100 buy back.

Isn't it wonderful how the Mayor of Seattle persuaded businesses to buy Gun's back from citizens, while he cannot manage any crisis in the City. How about all the loiters/ thugs last year destroyed businesses. He just let them do it with no control.

Seattle offers Amazon.com gift cards in exchange for guns
http://www.krem.com/news/northwest-news/186080461.html

Turn in a handgun in Seattle and pick up a $100 gift card for online shopping at Amazon.com.

The Seattle-based online retailer is kicking in $30,000.  The Seattle Police Foundation is adding $25,000. Pemco and other businesses also are contributing to push the total over $70,000.

The guns become property of the Seattle Police Department and will be destroyed.

I'm disturbed by the term "buy back" .  Like the government owned them in the first place.  Plus, I'm curious how many of these end up back on the market.

The more I think about this, the more I think this is a big deal. I even fell for it in my prior post. It's not just semantics. The left is very clever to redefine a problem statement to take advantage of cleverly described semantics. It may seem trivial, but it sets the stage for later discussion and many times makes certain assumptions about an issue that are just plain false. This is a good example.

Let's counter the term "buy back", which it really isn't, because the government never owned these guns in the first place. There is nothing to "come back". Maybe a more appropriate term would be "bribe", which more suitably describes the transaction. The government needs to "bribe" people with money because they would normally not turn in their guns without some incentive. We should refer to these activities as "government gun bribery schemes", which is a more accurate description of what is going on. It has a more sinister ring to it which is also more accurate.

Anybody agree?

I am wondering how many legal guns are left in Seattle most of the non-criminal citizens show nothing, but distain for our second amendment rights.  So I guess we can just call it a stolen gun buy back, or a gun used in a violent crime buy back.

Mayor McSchwinn is a moron. As you pointed out, let's let a-holes run wild unchecked (because the police aren't allowed to do their job) and make sure insurance rates are raised. He has no spine and couldn't manage his way out of a wet paper bag.

Anyone who sells back their firearm (even though it is not a sell back as pointed out) should get in line with the 47%!!!!! This is no longer a government for the people. It is a bunch of liberals with their own agenda.

I sure hope all the voters who re-elected this moron are happy. I know some of them are firearm owners and are fuming. Well, you know what? You got what ya voted for.

To me it is the government telling people that it is o.k. not to have a gun to protect your family and that we will pay you to give up that ability.

These buybacks usually take place in a city and are focused on (in my opinion) minority groups.  I think it is racist.  Just another way of hosing the minority and at the same time telling them it is in their best interest and that the government is there to take care of them and look out for them.

Who wants to go down and stand across the street with hundred dollar bills.  Any gun that is not worth a $100 + send them across the street to the gun buy back.  A great way to make a lot if money quickly.  Or just a sign that says assault weapon buy back for $125.  Up the antie.

It's great when the talk about gun buy backs and the table is full of AR's, AK's, street sweepers?  Really??  If someone is that dumb to turn in a valuable piece for a $75 gift card they need their head examined.

I would, there is a good chance my Benelli shotgun that was stolen would turn up!  Of course with a significantly shorter barrel and "thug life" carved into the stock.

I think this is a good opportunity for the gangbangers' mommies to get the illegal guns out of their homes and have a nice little shopping spree.  I agree that "buy-back" is a misnomer and has nonfrivolous implications.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
