Teach, that "floating stock" must come in handy when you drop your rifle in the river :chuckle:  The thing that I like best is that the rifle actually wipes my ass.  And not with just toilet paper, but those moist adult wipes.  Hell, I call it a bargain for that price!

Moose eyes, don't tell anyone that I am shooting CO deer from Eastern Washington.  I could get several fines including shooting over the roadway and reckless endangerment.

Hopefully, there are some .300 win shooters out there who got something useful from my post.

Not bashing your gun (I would love to have it) it is very purpose specific.  ;)

Purpose specific??? I guess if your purpose is shooting whatever-the- you want... at whatever-the- distance you want... then yeah... it's VERY purpose specific!

Russ is a great guy... I drive out there once a month or so to shoot the - and buy some bullets. I've been shooting the 210 Bergers out of a .300 RUM... they do very well out to about 1200 yards... though MOA is about the norm... no matter the range. I can really dig the way you have your rifle put together... great 'smith, great components, super glass... what's not to love?

Maybe he was referring to the 22 power optics.  :dunno:

5.5x on the low end... don't think that's limiting anyone.

What's your point?

I was refering to the optics also... and 22x ain't a lot on a mule deer rifle... especially not one that's capable of shots in the 1k range.

JoshT, I would just save your breath.  Check out my Sonora topic, there are some obvious "haters" on the site.  Thanks to those who shared the same sentiments by PM.  I will keep it safe from now on.  Now who wants to see a picture of my grandpa's old '06? :chuckle:

Congrats on what seems to be a great custom rifle. Heaven forbid you want to shoot over 200 yards. It's just too bad that your gun is capable of killing every animal in the united States but it is very purpose specific. Looks like a great gun and good luck.

JoshT, I would just save your breath . . . there are some obvious "haters" on the site.

If you are referring to me I can assure I am not a hater.  I am a proponent of all hunters uniting against the real hunting haters because there are a lot of them out there.  If you are into killing animals at over a half mile with 22X optics then have at it.  I have no objection to what anyone does as long as it is legal.

But I am curious where the "hunt" comes in?  It seems to me that "spot and stock" turns into "spot and snipe".  I don't see where this takes any woodsmanship skills.  And I really don't think it helps our cause as hunters.  Seems this type of hunting only gives the antis ammunition against us.

I'm not trying to poo poo your methods or put you down for using them.  But this is a forum designed for discussion, exchange of thought and opinions, etc.  So I took the liberty of sharing mine and asked you a couple questions and made a couple statements.  Conversation and respectful debate is healthy.  Besides, maybe both of us can learn something by it.

I'm not really saying anything bad about the gun, but I still think it is very specific, my 7mm is also very specific. I haven't used it for a couple years because I've been going for real hog mule deer in WA and in my country that means that I'm hunting really steep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! country, did I mention steep  :chuckle: Besides being steep it is thick, covered in dense willows. The last one I shot in this country was 27" wide and had nice mass, it was at 58 yards, oh ya with a Mathews also.  :chuckle: Last year I used my wife's 308, its a single shot and with scope it only weighs about 7 pounds. The thing is I haven't shot at or put a second shot in a deer since I was 9 years old. My fist deer I shot 4 times along with my elk that year and since then I have never shot a deer more than once, and I've got a nice buck every year since. My point being is unless you need it, I like to have a more versatile gun that I can hold at my should firm and not have the front end so heavy.

This is my 7mm Mag (it's still a nice gun don't take we wrong)
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Teacher, I have actually enjoyed your replies for the most part.  I may have thought that your reply to the Sonora post was a little condescending, but that may just be my interpretation.  I agree that discussion is great and that some rousing is a big part of our great sport.  However, to make comments that add no value or to question something that you may not understand but have already formed an opinion of should be kept to ones self.   :twocents:  If you have seen some of my pics, I am primarily an archery hunter and have had great success.  I pride myself in my hunting abilities - I have hunted on 15 out-of-state tags -  A lot for only being 27 years old.  I am very open-minded when it comes to hunting and think that a majority of hunters are too close-minded.   I do not feel that using a long-range rifle to take a deer at 500 yards is unethical or could be any less fulfilling.  I challange anyone who thinks otherwise to find a 190" public land mule deer during the season,  get within 500 yards of him and then make the shot.  I takes a tremendous amount of skill both as a hunter and as a markman.  Agree or disagree, we need to accept our differences and stand together.
