I have a knight bighorn and one of the things that I don't like about it is the forend seems short and the swivel stud is right where I would like to put my hand. Is the ultralights forend longer with the swivel stud futher forward or is it about the same as the bighorn?

  Thats what I am saying!  I almost spit my coffee out!  I have been thinking hard about upgrading from my bighorn but for that kind of coin I just fell back in love with the old girl!  I have never even paid that much for a centerfire rifle.

The stock is a Kevlar light weight stock with an internal aluminum action bedding block.





The whole rifle is 2 lbs. lighter than the DISC Extreme...

There is a whole list of differences between the two rifles - all up grades... I am hoping to get a post together tonight to show the things that I have found.

Price! I know that the price is huge factor, but you have to remember the price listed on the Knight site will always be higher than the dealer price - it has to be or there would be no benefit for a dealer...   At R&R the price is in the $750 area.  Bob's is getting four of them fairly soon but I have know idea what they might ask and I have been told... Wholesale Sports - changing again to Sportsman's has ordered 40 of them - so the price will be less at a dealer.

Still the price is expensive and the rifle is expensive and it certainly might not be a for a person that might hunt with a couple of weeks then put it away.  They do make very inexpensive rifles just for that.  But, in my case- I am a hunter and I hunt all year with a ML so I do want the extra quality and endurance.  I compare this rifle right along with my Tikka Lite win mag and my Browning A bolt - while there are more expensive rifles out there - these two are not cheap and the worst part is they are retired to the safe - do not eve use them anymore.

I did install the scope bases for rifle season and the mounted a NECG Peep site for ML season...

I really wanted the Mountaineer, but if I am correct, no western option for that one right??? Other than the weight difference and looks, are there any other "MAJOR" quality differences between the ultra-lite and extreme? Would the accuracy be equal in both? can the ultra-lite reach out farther?? Thanks for any help!!!

No you get a Mountaineer with a Western Kit installed, you will have to call Knight and let them know you want it that way.  Or better yet call Bob's and have him order it for you it will be cheaper - much cheaper

Accuracy... probably not much difference for the normal shooter.. . but for the really good shooters they might gain 1/2" to an 1" better accuracy.

I am really interested to hear how this gun shot for you SL. I moved here from Missouri 2 years ago, and shot a Scoped TC Encore back there. Now I am here, and need to get a new smokepole for my multi season deer tag (plus been thinking about Idaho Elk). Anyway, I've been looking at the Disc, the Bighorn and the UL... they all seem nice, but I have no expeirence with any of them. I don't really like thumbhole stocks and the Sprosmans Warehouse near me only has the Disc and Bighorn in Thumbhole. The UL feels GREAT. Just wonder about the accuracy and the recoil difference in such a lite stock (recoil because I would let my son shoot it some).

Also wondering what bullet and loads people prefer around here. I know what my Encore likes... but have no idea where to start with what the rules are here.

Thanks for any help you guys can give a poor Missouri boy.

The Ulite is an excellent shooting rifle with a huge variety od different bullets, from full bore lead conicals to just about any bullet you put down it up to .458 in size.  Oops that is not true - I forgot last weekend I shot full bore 50 cal bullets from it and they shot lights out also.

But now in the same breath.. I would add the Big Horn and the DISC as well as the Mountaineer have the ability to well also, with the edge maybe going to the Mountaineer because of it tighter machining requirements.  The thing that would set the Ulite slightly above the Mountaineer is the Aluminum bedded Kevlar stock you get with the Ulite.

You have to understand that I am totally biased when I say this, but I have shot a lot of TC products and in fact still have a few, but most knights will shoot more consistently than the TC's. Plus the Knights are a multi-state/country rifle.  Here in Idaho if you were to hunt ML season you will be required to shoot full bore lead conicals, not a problem with a Knight.  The QLA on some TC's can be a definite problem when shooting conicals, either lead or copper.

Anyway, I've been looking at the Disc, the Bighorn and the UL... they all seem nice, but I have no expeirence with any of them. Recoil is about the same with any of the three or four depending on the weight of the projectile and the amount of powder you choose to shoot.  For your son and I am assuming deer hunting - load up a 40x200 grain Bloodline and 100 grains of powder, which really is a more than adequate amount of powder) and other than the noise it would be more than acceptable recoil.

In Washington you are in really good shape projectile wise, you can shoot either full bore or bullets in sabots. Your limiting factors are cap ignition and open/peep sights.  Oregon and Idaho - not so much because of the full bore lead conical rules... but they really are not all that bad.
