Springer Fishing GoPro Video
« on: April 08, 2013, 06:21:06 PM »
Took my GoPro with me this weekend springer fishing. I need to work on my mounting location, and I also need to get the remote. We were only able to get one fish on video since we had to run up an turn the cam on.

That's pretty cool...

I haven't caught one yet in three trips and can't get free till Friday.  Hoping for another extension!

I like the sliding rod holder system you have on that boat.  Pretty slick.

That is our secret...very very quiet so we can sneak up on them  :chuckle:

With the waterproof housing on the camera, not much noise gets through.

Nice, I'd like to get a take down vid while anchor fishing, then capture the fight that ensues. Seems like fishing shows on TV rarely get the hit, always just the fight. Good luck, fun times ahead!

Bret, I didn't notice any fish, was too busy looking at the boat....  Great job guys...  We were at Kalama and heard all the reports from Cathlament all day..  Was almost ready to re-load and head there, but decided to stick it out, should have pulled anchor when I thought about it...

Thanks Mike. There was quite a few fish hooked in there on Saturday, but there was also about 50 boats at one time.

Thanks! There is a ton of fishing room, especially with only two guys in it. I'm loving the fact that we went 84" wide. My wife and I are expecting our first kid in July and I keep telling her we can pull the bench seats out and setup the pack n play  :chuckle:

Please remove this thread completely. After viewing the video twice I have since been parked at the website for www.gopro.com. I have decided that this is the next toy to document crabbing, humpy fish'n, bottom fish'n, and what ever else. I've already got myselft talked into it. Looks like a lot of fun to mess around with. I'm just figuring out where to mount it on the boat to have a good angle for the deck.....I'm thinking "humpy cam" 2013! Granted....just another pink to most but I'm gonna have a 7 year old on deck to slaughter them so....good times.

How big are your pots? The fish eye set on 1080-30fps with the wide setting on should be good enough if you just set it in the upper corner facing the bait, Id probably just use lots and lots of zip-ties. Not really a good mount for that one. Ive seen some really awesome videos of Gopro Crabbing. It will show you the faults in your Pot to. Shows where they get in, get out, what you could change to increase your catch. Good stuff.

You could also on like the bottom left side on the outside where it wouldnt interfear with a door, ziptie down a small piece of board just big enough to put a 3M sticky gopro mount on, Then just put one or two screws through it to make sure the 3M tape doesnt fail. Then use like 3 or 4 of the length attachments like this
http://www.swimoutlet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=33827&Click=263888

:to get a view a little further from the pot.

I like the view from the inside personally though otherwise your cages are going to be in the way alot, Get a dive housing if you want to record underwater in a crap pot, the picture is about 100x better unless you pick up a Hero 3, Those lenses on the housings are built alittle better then the 2 that I have.

They are fairly standard square pots. I was thinking that a section of pvc sticking out at a 45 with mounting plate would be secure and provide a full pot view.

Yeah that would work if you can secure it safely enough. Id even tie a piece of maybe like 100lb mono to the camera and secure it to your pot float, Just in-case it somehow falls off. Nothing like losing a few hundred $$ piece of equipment.

The 3's are cool though if you can afford them. They have a better stock case. They just a tad smaller,  They shoot 1080 in 120fps. Few other little things but other then that there's not much of a difference for 100$ more.

For mounting it in the boat I would get it up high. Mine was about 6.5' up in the air for that video.

Hey my :twocents: on it, if you're not going to get the Hero3 black edition - get the Hero2. It has the same specifications of the Hero3 Silver but slightly larger. You save a lot of money for the same quality video (and better quality than the White).

I really need to get my gopro out and about this summer. I bought it for helmet action on the snowmobile but i'm not the best with the computer and editing stuff so it's pretty much sat in the box since the first season i had it out. I have a hero 2 with some accessories. Maybe we need a gopro thread to share some tips and tricks. I have an RC plane i really want to mount it in too.

Cool video too Antler. You've inspired me to start messing with mine again.
