Going to need something. I can handle a little time in the blind but we are going to have to mix it up. A little tree stand, a little hiking slow hunting...some spot and stalk....gotta be prepared to hunt in whatever manner it takes to get on the game right!

Hey Smoosy do you eat shad?  If so I can save some for you.  I keep a few for bait and then catch and release but if you will get them I will set some a side.

Smossy, learn to pickle those shad.  They actually taste pretty decent that way.

Never had the opportunity to try them. I hear if you just fry them up real good they're delicious to eat, bone and all.

I need to learn to pickle/can things period. Im still young to the game so Ill pick it all up years to come.

I've got a pickling recipe that is easy and the results are dynamite. It came from oklahoma of all places one would think Alaska .My dad's buddy who spent 40 years working in alaska as a processor superintendant gave it the two thumbs up as one of the best he'd had of the hundreds he tried. I've done sockeyes silvers ,and dogs caught in the salt .

Upon proof reading my chicken scratching on the card  and consulting the original via the net I'm editing with a link cause I had it about 3/4 right.

I am headed to the north end of hood canal 4th of july weekend...a family home about 3 miles south of Hood Canal Bridge (near Kitsap Memorial Park).  I know very little about salmon fishing in hood canal...any chance I will encounter pinks?  Any advice for catching them if they are in that area?  Or should I not waste my time and just keep to my crab pots?

Pickled Shad - what?  Seriously of course there are people in the world that eat fried goat eyes and monkey brains too...  Man I love Shad--- as Sturgeon bait that is...

Pinks - I guess if I couldn't catch enough Silvers or Kings to fill the freezer they would be ok, heck 99% of canned stuff is pink anyhow..   Still after living in AK for so long, can't bring myself to save a Pink for anything...  A buddy saves everyone one of them, loves them..

This should be moved to the cooking section and then locked. Five pages of the same old debate. I try to be snob about my fish, but I'll be damned if a few don't hit the BBQ and the smoker this year. I think people just like to have something to debate about.

Lock the thread?  Same old debate about humpies?  LOL.  What about draw results, combat fishing at Hoodsport, how long is an ethical shot with a rifle...  Half the time time it is all  :beatdeadhorse:  I say let the odd-year tradition continue.

I have a neighbor that wants to get his boat out to fish (I got him set up with downriggers this spring).  Has anyone heard of any action off Eagle Point yet (San Juan Is.)?
