I like my Leica 1600 but for what you're wanting go with the G7 or veltronix.  The only downside is you jump from $800(Leica)to $1600 for the G7 and I think the veltronix is even worse.  Are they still made in Switzerland?

Now you're just getting crazy! I can rationalize $2000, but $4000 is where I draw the line! :chuckle:

I like my Leica 1600 but for what you're wanting go with the G7 or veltronix.  The only downside is you jump from $800(Leica)to $1600 for the G7 and I think the veltronix is even worse.  Are they still made in Switzerland?
I'd rather go with the Vectronix than the G7. The Terrapin is only about $300 more than the G7 and it seems like the Terrapin will consistently out range the G7 under similar conditions.

If you have the money go with the vectronix.  I own a Leica 1600b and have played with a friends G7 but if you can get a vectronix under 2000 I would choose that over the G7 aswell.  I was thinking the cheapest vectronix model was 3000+ but I was wrong.

The vectronix is about the only unit do what you are looking for.  The others will work under perfect conditions, but either the Terrapin or PLRF10 will range in most anything.  The only thing mine won't get through is thick fog.  Snow, rain, bright sunshine has not been a problem.

I own the Leica 1600 and it's not all that great.   Fit the budget.  I've used several G7's, and they are much nicer.  The Vectronix is the one, but out of my price range for the uses I put them to.

I've got this plan to make the Terrapin more affordable. PRG Defense has the best price ($1995) on the the Terrapin. I'm told that they also offer a Military/LEO discount. I'm going to convince one of my drivers, who is retired Air Force, to buy it for me in exchange for a day off. :tup:

Then I'm going to charge the guys I go shooting with a $5 per scan "rental" fee to use it. It sounds like a crazy idea until I'm making hits at 1300 yards and they can't come close because they don't know how far it actually is. Then that $5 won't seem so bad!

And more realistically, I'll sell one of my Strikers that I don't shoot to finance part of it. I don't really need 4 different bolt action pistols, and I never shoot the 300 RUM anyways! :chuckle:

I'm happy with my Leica 1600.
If I ever feel the need to upgrade it would be to a vectornox.

My Striker in 300 RUM is likely the one on the chopping block.  I have 4 bolt action pistols and the 300 RUM just doesn't really fill a need. I have the 338/375 Ruger for hunting any critter at pretty much any range, 284 for long range shooting or hunting medium sized game, and the 6mm BR for mid range target work.  Who would have guessed that a pistol in 300 RUM wouldn't be the most practical gun in the safe? :chuckle:

Sadly those aren't in my high demand list, but thank you for sharing.  Once you obtain the range finder, it would be interesting to pair a couple up to see how well the next tier down performs.  New Leica 1600, Swaro, Zeiss, etc.
I would love to know where the line is drawn before moving to the next level.

i have one of these, programable for several profiles, gathers all parameters save wind which you can manual imput or (IMO) should dope seperately anyway.  VERY spendy is only downside...
