It's on sale at my local Sportsmans warehouse. Says normally $110 now $80. Infrared and 4D batteries. Is this a good deal? A really good deal?

Yes that's a good price. I'd pick up a couple at that price. Especially since it's a local purchase so that if there are any problems you can return them easily.

I have one Primos 35 that I picked up for $60 a couple years ago. It hasn't let me down yet. Love the fast trigger, they don't miss much.

Only downside is you may go through quite a few D batteries.  Most if the time I run mine on a 6 volt external battery.

  get a rechargeable 6v battery and it will be better in the long run.

You can get a 6v rechargeable for less than $20

Battery is the real downside. I have learned over the years that I would rather spend an extra $20 or more on a camera that uses AA batteries and has good battery life. Doesn't take long for those D batteries every few months to add up. I can go a whole year on one set of batteries in my Bushnell and that is getting over 15k pictures.

These aren't going up in my back yard. I will only be able to check every other week at the very earliest. Better to go with a unit that takes AAs? Are there rechargeable Ds? 

They also have the moultree a5 and the Browning Ranger at that price. Oh dear the choices....

Bushnell Trophy camera or Moultrie M-Series.  You can't go wrong there

You should get at least 4 weeks out of the D batteries, and probably longer if you're not set up on bait. If you're just on a trail I'm sure the batteries will last for two months, minimum. Or if you're worried about it, get two external batteries for each camera. Each time you check them you can swap the battery out with a freshly recharged one.

I would recommend you at least buy one. It's well worth the $80. I can't recommend either of the other two you mentioned.

Two others I would recommend right now would be the Moultrie d55 at Rogers Sporting Goods, currently it's on sale for $70. Great camera for the money.

The other would be if you can find a refurbished Moultrie M80 on eBay. They are going for $80.

I have multiple bushnell trophies and will continue to buy those. Couple bucks a year in batteries and I am set and I also really like the picture quality. Maybe start off with one of the Primos and then watch for sales on other models. I have an older wildgame camera that I use in spots where I feel there is a higher chance it could be found. Bought it for $50 a few years back so if it gets swiped, I won't lose any sleep.

I have the 35. I charged it up and left it outside in 0-20 degree weather and never had any issues. It took hundreds of pictures for weeks before I had to charge the batteries. I have the Primos solar panel and the 6 v battery and never have used it.

This thing is huge! No theft case for it?

Another nice thing about it is there is a hole through the back of it made for the use of a cable lock. You don't need to buy a separate metal box to lock it up. Just a Python cable.
